Police Intercept Weapons In Kano Allegedly Belonging To Shiites

Police intercept weapons belonging to ShiitesPolice have intercepted a truck in Kano carrying weapons and supplies allegedly belonging to members of the outlawed Islamic Movement in Nigeria popularly known as Shiites.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, the spokesman for the Kano State Police Command, Mr Magaji Majia, said that the truck was coming from Potiskum in Yobe State and was said to be going to Zaria where the Shiites were marking the Arba’een ritual of the killing of Imam Hussain.

“You can see the weapons made up of cutlasses catapult, generators and other supplies and the truck full of clothes and flags of the movement.”

According to Majia, the weapons are illegal and capable of killing its target on the spot.

“You can remember few days ago, members of this movement attacked and killed one police officer and injuring three others during their illegal procession. Since then, we embarked on investigation, including stop and search, to see if it is true they are carrying dangerous weapons, the results of such investigation led us to this discovery,” he told reporters.

Meanwhile, store keeper of the group, who maintained that he was not aware that weapons were among the supplies he was escorting to Zaria, also disclosed that the weapons were used to construct tents in an event of stop over during the course of their seven day trek to Zaria.

“We don’t carry weapons. I am not aware the weapons are here but we use them to make tent and to protect women and children against intruders especially at night since we are all trekking”.

In a raid in Kano, over 40 people were arrested by operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) at the popular Wapa Bureau De Change market in the state.

Although no official statement from the DSS in Kano was issued to that effect, association of the Bureau De Change in the state through the union auditor general one Kabir Abdul confirmed the arrest.

“They came in arresting people on allegation that we are selling dollars above government approved price and up till this time we don’t know where they are keeping our members,” Mr Abdul told Channels Television.

Attempts to speak with DSS was not successful, as the spokesman for the agency told channels Television that he was on leave and that he had no knowledge that Wapa Bureau De Change market was raided by his operatives.

Police spokesman in Kano, Magaji Majia, told Channels Television that in view of the sour relationship between Kwankwaso-led APC faction and supporters of Governor Ganduje, the two events could not be allowed to hold on the same day and in the same venue almost the same time.

“The two factions are already paying a democratic lip service to each other, therefore the Police Commissioner Rabi’u Yusuf directed that the two events be suspended indefinitely”.

Vice President Yemi Osibajo is scheduled to attend the suspended Kano Government Youth Empowerment Programme while the former Governor Rabi’u Kwankwaso was to attend the Kwanjwasiyya mass wedding.

When contacted, the State Commissioner of Information, Muhammad Garba, said Ganduje administration had no problem with any Union coming to assist the Government but claimed that they were not aware about the Kwanjwasiyya mass wedding programme.

“I’m surprised to hear that the Commissioner of Police has suspended our programme because no one told us that Kwanjwasiyya foundation will be holding a mass wedding at the same day and at the same venue – Sani Abacha Stadium – but since the police have decided to stop us, we have no choice but to obey the law,” he told Channels Television.

However, all attempt to speak with the leadership of the Kwanjwasiyya Foundation on the recent development was not successful but sources close to Kwanjwasiyya told Channels Television that their leadership would release a statement of reaction in due course.

With 2019 around the corner, political situations in the politically advanced Kano State are already becoming more tense.

Police Arrest 17 Suspected Kidnappers In Kano

Police Arrest Kidnappers In KanoPolice have arrested 17 suspected kidnappers in Doguwa Local Government Area (LGA) of Kano State, northwest Nigeria.

The spokesman for the Kano State Police Command, Magaji Majia, confirmed the arrest in an interview with Channels Television.

He said that the suspects were currently being interrogated and would soon be paraded before the general public.

“It is true that our Anti-Kidnapping Unit attached to Karasa village in Doguwa Local Government Area had encounter with a group of suspected kidnappers during which we arrested about 17 of them.

“We are questioning them,” the Police Public Relations Officer said.

This latest arrest followed a series of reported cases of kidnapping in Doguwa LGA and other neighbouring villages around Falgore forest.

Although Mr Majia did not confirm whether or not there were casualties during the encounter, he said some livestock and weapons of different types were recovered from the suspects.

“We have also recovered cows and sheep, face masks, cartridges and other equipment used to commit crimes,” he added.

The Police spokesman called on residents in the village to remain vigilant by reporting any suspicious individual or group to the police.

He also assured them that the Kano State Police Command would continue to do its best in protecting their lives and property.

Kano Police Parades Suspects, Recovers Items Worth 5bn Naira

Items recovered from the suspects include; 532 parcels of Indian hemp valued at 2.5 million Naira, large quantity of cocaine to be sold at over 2.2 billion Naira, rifles of different caliber, 250 stolen rice, cars and motorcycles

Presenting the items to the state Governor, the Commissioner of Police, Musa Katsina, said that 45 suspects with arms were arrested, while 13 people caught with fake passport were apprehended.

According to the state Police Commissioner, having cleared Falgore Forest off the cattle rustlers, it now became necessary to put Kano among the least drug consuming state in Nigeria.

Receiving the exhibits from the Police, the state Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, expressed his government’s interest over the cases related to drug abuse, armed robbery and cattle rustling.

The Governor explained that the state government will not seat back while courts releases convicted criminals only to go back to their crimes.

Meanwhile, 12 youths from Edo State who were arrested with fake passport travelling to Libya, told the governor that they decided to leave Nigeria due to unemployment.

He requested that the State Chief Security Officer should temper justice with mercy and return them to their state.

In the meantime, the Police said it will hand the suspects over to relevant authorities for necessary prosecution while they continue their unsought against criminals in the state.

One Dead As Police Encounter Cattle Rustlers In Kano Forest

KanoOne person has been confirmed dead following an encounter between men of Kano State Police Command and suspected Fulani cattle rustlers in Gani town, Kano-Bauchi Boarder Forest axis.

The bush is located in Kano within the Northwest and borders Bauchi which leads to Sambisa Forest on the Northeast boarder axis.

Addressing journalists at the scene of the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, Musa Katsina, said that 224 cows, 34 sheep and two dogs were recovered from the suspects.

According to the Commissioner, It was a tedious Thursday night for the Police Anti-cattle Rustling Unit and the command’s Special Ambush Squad when they engaged in an all night exchange of fire with the bandits, which led to the recovery of some cows and sheep.

Mr Katsina said that in collaboration with community Leaders, vigilante groups and the association of Fulani Herdsmen, the command had since, directed special surveillance units to conduct an aggressive search of the forest with a view to identifying the fleeing suspects who might have not gone far as he delivered the cows to the State Government for onward hand over to the original owners.

However, because of the heated police patrol around the popular Falgore Forest axis, cattle rustlers were said to have shifted their activities to Gomo Forest in far Sumaila Local Government Area of Kano in the process of raiding some villages that were ambushed by the Police Anti-Cattle Rustling Units and Special Ambush Squad Team.

Receiving the cows on behalf of Kano State Government, a member of the State House of Assembly representing Sumaila constituency, Hamza Zubairu, promised to deliver the cows to the state government for proper identification of the owner.

In the meantime, the Kano Command of the Nigeria Police will soon seek collaboration with other states commissioners of Police who share boarders with the state to be able to bring an end to the disturbing cattle rustling operations especially in the northwest states boarder axis.

 

Kano Police Parade Suspected Cattle Rustlers

 

KanoIt has been operation war against cattle rustlers in Kano State and the Emir of Kano, the Governor and the State Commissioner of Police seem all united on this matter.

About 78 suspected cattle rustlers are in the Police custody and are being quizzed on the whereabouts of their colleagues.

The Kano State Police Command has also recovered 818 cows from the suspected cattle rustlers.

Parading the suspects to the State Governor and the Emir of Kano on Sunday, the Police Commissioner, Musa Katsina, said that a leader of the syndicate was killed during an encounter, as few policemen also sustained minor gun shot injuries.

Channels Television’s correspondent in Kano, Idris Jibrin, reported that the State Government had set up a committee to liaise with the Police in handing over the cows to the original owners.

In their battle against the cattle rustlers, the Police recovered additional 87 sheep, three AK 47 rifle, 22 ammunition, one English single-barrel rifle, one pump-action rifle, two English pistols as well as large quantity of drugs.

Disturbed by the increasing cases of cattle rustling, the State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, said that Government would continue to support the Police in their attempt to root out all criminals in the state and environs.

Mr. Ganduje further said that no one convicted for cattle rustling, armed robbery or other related criminal activities would go free.

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, also called for speedy execution of the suspects.

Emir Sanusi warned that the State Government, The Emirate Council, Police and all other relevant security agencies should continue to gang up against cattle rustling and any other form of criminal activities in the state.

“These people are supposed to be executed in accordance with the Islamic laws because they killed, they raped and robbed people of their cattle and other valuable items.

“I therefore call on courts to do the right things and in accordance with the law,” he said.

The Emir also urged residents to continue to cooperate with all security agencies by reporting any suspicious individual to either the Police, village heads or community based organizations for immediate actions.

Police Deploy Special Unit To Kano Forest To Tackle Robbers

kano-policeThe Nigerian Police Force is set to deploy a special combat unit to the notorious armed robbery zone of Falgore Forest in Kano State.

The State Police Command said the unit would checkmate the increasing activities of armed robbers in the area, following the ban on check points by the Inspector General of Police.

During an assessment tour to the site, the newly posted Commissioner of Police, Musa Katsina, told reporters that the officers had already been trained on counter-terrorism and other crime prevention techniques.

According to motorists plying the route, the recent ban of check points has helped in increasing the activities of armed robbers around the area, with at least three to four robbery cases recorded within a week.

Meanwhile, the Police Commissioner has asked motorists to cooporate with the Police in order to ensure safety of life and property, as some strategic locations had been identified for the deployment of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit.

This exercise is the first major operation carried out by the new Commissioner of Police in Kano, after being posted to replace Ibrahim Idris, who was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).

Police Arrest Suspected Armed Robbers In Military Uniform In Kano

kano policeKano State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers who disguised in military uniform to rob travellers along Kano-Maiduguri road.

Addressing a news conference, the Police Public Relations Officer, Magaji Majia, said the suspects had confessed to executing many armed robbery attacks around all the entry and exit points of Kano State.

Mr Majia disclosed that items recovered from the suspects includes a Honda Accord car valued at over one million Naira, $14,900 and two iPhone phones valued at over 300,000 Naira.

The command also confirmed that a team of Police officers have been deployed to arrest the accomplices of the suspects, as those in custody would be charged to court for armed robbery.

Recently, in a bid to alleviate indiscipline and other forms of criminal activities, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase tasked the force to adopt new strategies to deal with the current realities, stressing that the days of senior officers staying all through in the office without going to the field were over.

Police Nab Cattle Rustlers, Armed Robbers In KanoKano State Police Command has arrested some perpetrators of various crimes in the state, which include Cattle rustlers, armed robbers amongst others.

The Police arrested a suspect, Yahaya Sale (popularly called Narigasa), for allegedly stealing over 100 domestic animals in the state and some neighbouring states in Nigeria’s north region.

For almost four years, Sale and nine other members of his syndicate have continued to terrorise local communities in the state, carting away their Cows, Sheep and sometimes kidnapping their wives.

Revealing the arrest on Wednesday, the Kano State Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Idris, confirmed the death of one member of the syndicate during an encounter with the Police around Falgore forest in the state.

Mr Idris disclosed that about 197 Cows were so far recovered from Sale and other members of his gang, adding that 31 other suspected Cattle rustlers had been arrested and charged to court.

In Sumaila Local Government Area of the State where the Fulani Cattle rustlers were arrested, residents pointed out cow robbery as a major threat in the communities.

The 30-year old Sale confirmed to reporters that they had stolen about 30, 000 Cattle and Sheep in Kano and other neighbouring states in the north.

“I joined this gang four years ago and since the, we have stolen about 30,000 Cattle in Kano and beyond. We also steal to sell and use the money to drink, womanise and do other dubious characters,” he said.

Similarly, the Police Commissioner noted that his men had arrested one notorious Local Bandit in Kano State, Taju Kabiru, who had been on the Police Wanted List for three years.

Kabiru along his group members, were said to have gotten involved in violent clashes during which two persons were killed and several others injured.

In another development, the command’s spokesman, Magaji Majia, confirmed the arrest of another suspect, Hauwa Mustapha, who allegedly organised a gang of armed robbers from Jos, Plateau State capital, to carry out robbery operation in the commercial city of Kano.

Mr Majia said that the suspect was first arrested in 2011, for renting an apartment to kidnappers of Nigerian Footballer, Mikel Obi’s father.

After serving her jail term, Hauwa was allegedly said to have resumed crime as several weapons including AK 47 rifles were recovered from the suspect and her group members.

The command affirmed that all the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution, as soon as investigations into their alleged crimes were completed.

Security Chiefs To Shutdown Illegal Motor Parks In Kano

Nigerian-Army-KanoSecurity Chiefs in Kano State in north-west Nigeria have disclosed their plans to shutdown all illegal Motor parks across the state.

In a meeting with officials of various parks in the state, the Security Chiefs – the State Police Command, Department of State Security Service, Brigade Command, the Airforce Command and other Road Traffic Agencies – tried to address security issues at various parks across Kano State.

Speaking on various issues, including Motor Park security control, which comprises thorough search of passengers and their luggage, first aid measures, as well as police-park relations, which would further strengthen the security of various parks, the Chiefs stressed the need for the parks to adhere to security tips, as they were meant to ensure that parks were protected.

Two suicide bombers had recently attacked the popular Kano Line Motor park, killing about 10 people.

In a related development, the command paraded two persons suspected to have killed one person during a political rally clash in the state, with the Security Chiefs warning that would no longer be business as usual.

They stressed that all illegal park would be shutdown without any second thought.

The park Officials urged the joint Security Chiefs to continue to assist them in ensuring the safety of their passengers.

In the mean time, the Kano State Police Command said it would continue to consult and address various stakeholders on security matters in order to ensure that Kano State and Nigeria in general are peaceful.

Police claim ‘only two people were killed’ in Kano’s violence

The Kano State Police Command has stated that “only two people were killed” in the religious violence that gripped the ancient town of Bichi in Kano state on Thursday.

A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Magaji Musa Majiya confirmed the incident on Friday claiming that “Only two people were killed, eight shops and a house were burnt during the protest while two others sustained injury.”

The civil disturbance erupted in Bichi Local Government Area on Thursday, when an Igbo man was accused of blasphemy on the cloth sewed by the tailor and some residents went on rampage and this reportedly led to the death of four people.

15 shops and one church were also alleged to have been razed down.

Meanwhile, the command claimed that 22 suspects were arrested as normalcy has been restored at Bichi town, adding that “residents are going about their normal businesses without any hindrance as patrol has been intensified.”

“The command will not relent in its effort to investigate the root of the inferno and whoever is involved will be arrested and be made to face the wrath of the law accordingly” stated the police spokesperson.

“People are therefore called to continue to live in peace and pay due respect to each other’s way of life without any form of provocation” the statement concluded.

Kano: Police defuse over 900 bombs in 8months

The Kano State Police Command says it has defused over 900 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) of different calibre in the last eight months in the state.

The state Police Commissioner, Mr. Ibrahim Idris told a news conference in Kano that over a hundred suspects have also been arrested at different locations in the last eight months.

According to Mr. Idris,  two of the 963 bombs detonated were suicide prime car bombs, while three AK 47 riffles, 226 cartridges, 12 knives, 11 stolen vehicles and 45 rounds of ammunition have been recovered.

The Commissioner also explained that out of the 108 persons arrested, 92 of them have been charged to court for different offences ranging from been in possession of Indian hemp, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.

He said the command in collaboration with other security agencies had concluded plans to ensure a successful E-id- Fitri celebration in the state, assuring residents that the command was ready to forestall the breakdown of law and order during the celebration.
