Koko Master D’banj, Launches Talent Hunt Project, ‘Cream’

The singer, songwriter and self-proclaimed ‘koko master’ grew through the ranks within the Nigerian music sphere, beginning with his debut single ‘tongolo’ in 2005.

Having risen to the pinnacle of the Nigerian music industry on the back of five albums, the former MO’hits man announced that his new mission was to nurture budding talents in Nigeria.

According to him, talents are everywhere and in order to reach out to them, he created the platform that would bring young talents together from far and wide.

Working with him to achieve this is American talent manager, Tonya Merritt, who had worked with American talents, including 2 Chainz, Idriss Elba and many others.

Merritt believes Nigeria boasts of talented individuals who are capable of ruling the music world.

In June 2011, D’banj and his then music partner, Don Jazzy signed to American music imprint ‘Good Music’ owned by multiple grammy award winner Kanye West.

A deal which was believed to eventually lead to the breakup of MO’hits, their own indigenous record label.

Today, artists like Tiwa Savage, David O and Wizkid also brag about gaining the attention of international audience.

D’banj’s latest single ‘If No Be God’, gives a different vibe from the typical dance-oriented D’banj’s songs.

D’banj Releases EP Visuals

D'banjAfro-pop singer, Dapo Oyebanjo better known by his stage name D’banj, has released a visual EP album of seven songs.

D’banj also presented the visuals to selected music lovers in Lagos.

To mark his 10th anniversary as an entertainer, the self proclaimed Koko Master on the new EP, is the track ‘Confidential’ which features Hollywood actor, Idris Elber and rapper, Shadow Boxer.

The song arrived amidst wide controversies, as the song was first released in 2012 as a Shadow Boxer’s song which featured D’banj.

Over the course of his ten year career, D’banj had taken detours into other forms of businesses including merchandising, promoting agriculture and music retailing amongst others.

The erstwhile Mo’hits singer believed these were necessary detours to sustain his art even if sometimes, may be a cause of distraction from his music.

In 2011, the singer alongside his Mo’hits partner, Don Jazzy, signed to Grammy winner, Kanye West’s Good Music record label.

Shortly after, he broke away from Don Jazzy in a widely publicised and controversial manner.

D’banj also unceremoniously, left the American record label which many critics suggested never added much to his career.

His Mo’hits partnership with Don Jazzy produced some of the biggest music in mainstream Nigerian music while it lasted, including the European hit, ‘Oliver Twist’, which forced fans to wish for a reunion.

D’banj revealed that he already had a couple of tracks recorded with his old partner and might release some soon.

In an exclusive interview with Channels Television’s Entertainment News, D’banj said that in his happy go-lucky demeanour, he ranted about the constant call from fans for a work with Don Jazzy.

D’Prince releases ‘Take Banana’ video

Former Mo’Hit star, who is now a member of the Mavin Crew, Charles Enebeli popularly known as D’prince has released the long awaited video to his single ‘Take Banana’.

The video has a very good clarity but for some reasons doesn’t tally with the song.

The video was remixed with some dubstep vibe and a bit of afrobeat and was produced by Derek Pike.

D’prince has also released three other new singles, Goody bag, Call police and Real G ft M.I

Why I signed Jaysleek – D’banj

Multiple music award winner and entertainer Dapo Oyebanjo popularly known as D’banj, recently opened up on his signing of popular producer Jeremiah Shelika, popularly known as Jaysleek  as an ambassador for the newly formed D’banj Records.

In a statement released and signed by D’banj, the Koko Master expressed so much excitement saying ‘it is a sure sign of great things to come.

“This has been a long time coming so we are really happy to see Jaysleek join the D’Banj family. It’s exciting to be working with one of the best; Jaysleek is a fantastic producer, hardworking, humble, and immensely creative.”

I’m so certain that he will carve a niche for himself here at D’Banj Records and inspire us to even greater music,” he added.

Jaysleek in his reply said “I’m honoured to be part of such a young, fresh, innovative team; there’s so much energy here, it’s simply incredible. We’re going to keep on making great music for our fans for a very long time to come, you can be sure of that!”

The prolific producer has produced for topmost artistes like 2face, Faze, Wizkid, Sound Sultan amongst others.

He also produced the latest single from D’banj “Oyato” after the split of Mo’Hits Crew.

D’banj releases new single – Oyato

Popular Nigerian singer, Dapo Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj has released a new single titled Oyato.

The single which he released on Saturday is the first Nigerian single the singer will be releasing after leaving Mo’Hits.

He said he has dedicated the single to his fans for standing by him through all his trying time.

D’banj after his split with Mo’Hits was signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music Label.

Don Jazzy launches new record label – signs Tiwa Savage

Former producer and god-father of Mo’hits Michael Collins, popularly called Don-Jazzy has launched a new record label which he called “Marvin Records”

The multiple award winning producer also announced that Tiwa Savage would be joining the new Mavin family.

The signing of Savage, one of Nigeria’s leading vocalists, is seen as a major coup for the budding record label and Don Jazzy promised fans that there are many more exciting faces to be “activated” by the label in the near future.

Don Jazzy, who broke away from his former Mo’hits partner D’banj has made effort to prove his competence to music lovers.

“I know that there are questions unanswered, mysteries unsolved and wounds to heal,” the producer said. “But I would really appreciate if we allow time to heal the wounds for us all instead of digging them up again.”

CEO of the new label has spent the last three weeks locked in the recording studio along with the fellow “Mavins” as they finalize plans for their debut compilation album, Solar Plexus to be  released 8th May.

The album has been a collaborative labor of love which has traversed five countries.

In the same vein as the previously released Curriculum Vitae by the Mo’Hits All Stars, Solar Plexus will be an exclusive window to showcase the prowess of the Mavin family.

D’banj part ways with Don Jazzy – speculations

Speculations are rife in the social media of the separation of multi-awards winning musician, D’Banj and his producer/partner Don Jazzy.

The partnership of the duo have been adjudged to be one of the longest and most successful in the Nigerian music industry.

The publicist for the popular record label Mo’Hits, Sunday Are is yet to comment on the rumor that the executives of the music power house are about to break up.

Mr Are who has been with the record label for ages said “If people are saying they are about to break up what we can do is to wait to see if they eventually break up or not.”

However, after further quizzing on the state of the relationship of the duo, Mr Are confessed that he just got into the country a few days ago, he has been making calls to find out what was happening and nobody is confirming or denying the rift.

“Nobody has said anything to me, and the truth is I don’t want to be any part of “Abracadabra” so I can’t confirm anything yet.

The rumor broke March 5, 2012 on different online media platforms that the frontrunners of the super record imprint Mo’Hits are currently experiencing a relationship ending rift .

According to these reports, Don Jazzy has abandoned their Lekki mansion and D’banj has been marooned by the other members of the Mo’Hits Family for his arrogance.
