I Didn’t Collect Money From Office Of NSA – Metuh

A former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Olisa Metuh, has denied collecting money from the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki.

Metuh, who is standing trial for allegedly diverting N400 million from the former National Security Adviser, made this denial on Sunday, during an interview on Channels Television Programme, Politics Today.

He said during the interview that he has never been to the office of the NSA and has no relationship with him.

“I did not collect any money from the National Security Adviser’s office. I have never been to the former National Security Adviser’s office.

“I had no relationship with the former National Security Adviser, I had a relationship with my President who was the leader of my party,” he said.

Metuh, during the interview, pointed accusing fingers at the Federal Government. He claimed that the APC-led government is witch-hunting its opponents especially members of the PDP and not truly fighting corruption.

PDP Accuses Presidency Of Conspiracy, Intrusion In Metuh's Case
A file photo of Mr Olisa Metuh’s appearance in court on February 5, 2018

“This persecution is more than that. They witch-hunt. It is not a fight against corruption. It is a fight against political opponents.

“How can you call someone a looter when he is still in court. How can you say someone stole when there is no evidence about it? When you are saying that the money paid into his account is an unlawful activity. You haven’t proven it. You have not established anything. Maybe because you think you can manipulate the judiciary,” he said.

The former PDP spokesperson also faulted the list of alleged looters released by the Federal Government. He claimed that the Federal Government is manipulating the judiciary and lamented that “this is not the democracy that our founding fathers established.”

Metuh also absolved the PDP of alleged corrupt activities or funds mismanagement, challenging the Federal Government to prosecute any PDP member found guilty of corruption allegation.

“Is PDP an individual, if there are PDP members that have looted, please charge them to court, even if they have gone to the APC. Do not say the PDP has looted because the PDP is not an individual.

“PDP as a party ensures the principles of democracy. We allowed people their fundamental human right,” he said.

The Federal Government in its list of alleged looters released on Friday named Metuh as one of those who have allegedly looted the nation’s treasury. In reaction to this, Metuh said the APC-led Federal Government has resorted to all kinds of tactics to dehumanise and intimidate him.

Metuh, in his ongoing trial for allegedly diverting N400 million from the former NSA has filed an application seeking to travel to London, United Kingdom to get treatment for a malignant spinal cord disease.

The Supreme court which is sitting in Abuja, however, adjourned ruling on Metuh’s application for permission to travel to April 19, 2018.

Mention Governors Supporting You, Makarfi PDP Faction Dares Gulak

PDP Caretaker Committee, Ahmed Gulak, GovernorsThe Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked a chieftain of the party, Mr Ahmed Gulak, to name the governors he said were in support of his faction.

The party, under the leadership of its factional chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, noted that the camp of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff had continued to blame the PDP governors for the crisis rocking the party.

They maintained that the caretaker committee had the full support of all the PDP governors.

The PDP made the declaration on Monday in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye.

The statement read: “Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to Ahmed Gulak, an aide of Senator Ali Modu Sherriff in which he stated that up to eight Governors of the PDP are in support of his renegade group.

“We naturally wouldn’t have dignified Gulak and his cohorts with a response but silence could be misinterpreted as admission of the lies of these pathological liars. We are amused by Gulak’s claims. Since the 21st of May 2016 National Convention which held in Port Harcourt, Ali Modu Sheriff and his renegade band have never missed any opportunity to blame the governors for the problems of the party. Only last week, their self-appointed Deputy National Chairman, Cairo was still castigating the governors for the party’s woes at a press conference. Why attack those who are supporting you?

Political Hallucination

“If Gulak wants to be taken seriously, he should name the governors who are supporting his group. Give names and say the type of support you receive from the governors.

“On the other hand, it may be a case of political hallucination, that he actually meant the APC governors who are their sponsors and not our PDP governors. The whole world knows that these are paid agents of the APC being used to destabilise our great Party”.

The party further stated that all PDP governors were fully in support of the National Caretaker Committee which they and other stakeholders created, asking Mr Gulak to wake up from his dream and come to the world of reality.

APC Says Wike’s Leaked Audio Confirms Party’s Fears

APC Says Wike’s Leaked Audio Confirms Party’s Fears The All Progressives Congress (APC), has said that the leaked audio recording where the Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike, admitted to bribing some electoral officials, has confirmed the party’s fears.

This was revealed in a statement by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.

According to them, Wike had threatened to kill the electoral officials if his instructions were not followed in the lead up to the recently conducted December 10, 2016, legislative re-run elections in the state.

“Going by the revelations from the leaked audio recordings, it is obvious that Governor Wike may have engaged in unwholesome conducts that might have compromised the integrity of the electoral process and undermined his office as the Chief Security Officer of the State.

“The only logical conclusion from this therefore is that the electoral victories of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), may have been achieved through underhand dealings and intimidation of officials.

“Recall that on December 6, 2016, the APC alerted security agencies on reports of a massive arms build-up and other sinister plots that Wike and the PDP planned to execute on the day of the legislative rerun elections in rivers state”.

Furthermore, the party added that: “Nigerians have watched with grave concern how the process of the just concluded legislative rerun election has led to the death of ordinary citizens in the state including security officers.

“The statement that Governor Wike appeared to have made on record has now pointed directly at where responsibility should be placed for the violence that attended the election.

“It is also evident that the allegations by the Rivers state government and the PDP of an assassination threat on Wike and the allegation by him that APC governors funded violence in the state during the election might have been deliberately contrived to cover-up the role that the governor had played in the violence that attended the election.

“The APC condemns any form of violence as it relates to elections or any other matter. In this instance, we urge security agencies to do the needful and ensure that sponsors and perpetrators of violence, no matter how highly placed, are brought to justice,” the statement read.

The governor on the other hand, denied the audio recording, calling it a technological contraption.

In a protest, Wike then led supporters and leaders of the PDP, as well as some members of the State Executive Council to the Police Headquarters in Rivers State.

The protesters demanded the redeployment of two officers, who they claim masterminded the violence and electoral malpractice that took place at the polls.

Former Sports Minister, Bolaji Abdulahi Is New APC Spokesman

Former Sports Minister, Bolaji Abdulahi Is New APC SpokesmanThe former Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdulahi, is set to replace Mr Lai Mohammed as the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after north central leaders adopted him.

His election held on Thursday at the Zonal Congress of the party in Abuja.

Among the delegates to the congress were Governors Simon Lalong of Plateau and Sani Bello of Niger States.

The congress was chaired by the National Vice Chairman of APC from the zone, Zakari Idde.

Abdulahi was unanimously confirmed via a voice vote by the delegates, after the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Deputy Speaker, Godiya Akwashiki, nominated him and was seconded by Senate Spokesman, Aliyu Abdullahi.

Mr Abdullahi told journalists after his emergence that he would adopt a fresh strategy on his new job as he was aware that the post is different from his former position of sports minister, as they “demand different approaches”.

“I have a fair understanding of what I am expected to do even though you never know until you really get there.

“What I can assure is that I will do the best I can, not only in the improvement of our party but also in contributing to the progress of this country especially at this challenging period,” he said.

On the pressure that comes with the office of the National Publicity Secretary for a ruling party, Abdulahi said that he had the experience to manage this.

“However, what I know is that every human being is under pressure. Mr President, the ruling party chairman and everybody including the journalists are under pressure. There will always be pressure because the expectations of people are very high.

“So, irrespective of the economic challenges, we have to continue to weather the storm especially now that I am brought in to be part of the process. All I can reassure is that I will give the best I can to ensure that we continue to move forward,” he said.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Lai Mohammed, held the position until hi appointment as Minister by President Muhammadu buhari.

ACF Kicks Against Restructuring Of Nigeria

ACFThe Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), has warned those calling for the restructuring of Nigeria to have a rethink, insisting that the nation should preserve the present federal structure of governance.

The forum also condemned the attacks on oil pipelines by Niger Delta militants, the Boko Haram insurgency,  herdsmen attacks and other criminals.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Muhammad Ibrahim, the group faulted the stance of groups agitating for the restructuring of the nation.

“The long running debate as to whether or not to restructure the Federation of Nigeria”, saying that “ACF observed with regret that most of those discussions are taking place without regard to decorum or civility, as the issues are often presented as demands by one group or the other”

“Unfortunately, in most cases, they are followed up by some ultimatum to the authorities to accept or face deadly consequences. Some groups refer to restructuring to mean true federalism, others call it resource control”.

However, the statement notes that restructuring a complex, big and diverse country as Nigeria is a serious business that must take account of the views of all its citizens, and not just of those that shout the loudest or issue threats, intimidation or blackmail.

“Moreover, our present democratic structure provides ample opportunity for groups and individuals to present their agitations through their representatives in the National and State Assemblies.”

On the security challenges facing the country, the forum noted that despite the efforts of the military and other security agencies in tackling insurgency, militancy, kidnapping and indiscriminate killing of innocent citizens by gunmen, the menace is becoming a serious threat to peaceful coexistence of Nigerians that have lived peacefully over the years.

“The recent killing of the traditional ruler of Bokkos Local Government Area in Plateau State, the Saf Ron Kulere, Lazarus Agai and the kidnap of another traditional ruler in Benue State for ransom and many others, raise serious concern”.

“ACF therefore condemns in strong terms the dastardly act of unknown gunmen who killed Saf Ron Kulere, Lazarus Agai and calls upon the security agencies to not only fish out the perpetrators of this heinous crime but also to prosecute them to serve as deterrent to others”.

“ACF also extends its condolences to the Government and people of Plateau State, the family of the paramount ruler of Bokkos over the killing of the traditional ruler.”, the statement said.

Presidency Has No Hand In EFCC Affairs – Information Minister

EFCCThe Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday said the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has no hands in the way the EFCC carries out its functions.

Mr Mohammed disclosed this on Wednesday to State House correspondents in Abuja while responding to reactions trialling Mr Olisa Metuh’s arrest by the EFCC.

The Minister challenged the media to carry out investigations on such reports to authenticate whether such allegations are true or false.

“I think the first point to make is that this government is not micro-managing any of the anti-graft agencies. I know for a fact that they don’t contact the President or anybody before they do their job.

“I think the media also has to do more than they are doing right now, they should investigate these allegations and also make their independent judgment about it.

“Honestly, if the EFCC or ICPC says that they are able to trace certain amount of money to my account, I don’t want you to believe it, I want you to also ask for proof; do your investigation.

“I can assure you that this government, no functionary in government micromanages or directs the EFCC or ICPC on who to arrest and who not to arrest”, he said.

This is coming after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Olisa Metuh, on Tuesday morning.

According to a statement, officials of the anti-graft agency told the opposition party spokesman that he was being invited on a friendly note to answer questions at the EFCC Headquarters in Abuja.

The PDP subsequently released a statement, signed by its National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo, that the arrest of Mr Metuh was part of a larger script by the government to ensure that the party’s wings were finally clipped.

The party said that it was not surprised by the arrest because according to them, it came after series of threats on the PDP spokesperson.

“The excesses of security agencies under this government, especially the Directorate of Security Services (DSS) and the EFCC, in abridging the human rights of PDP members have become worrisome and a threat to our democratic evolution,” the statement read.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised an alarm over the arrest of its spokesperson, Mr Olisa Metuh.

The party, in a statement by its National Secretary, Professor Wale Oladipo, said that the arrest of Mr Metuh, based on an intelligence the party claims it got, is part of a larger script by the government to ensure that PDP’s wings are finally clipped.

Professor Oladipo added that the effort was part of a mission of the APC-led government to install a dictatorial one-party state in the country.

The party, however, said that it is not surprised by Mr Metuh’s arrest because according to them, it came after series of threats on their party’s spokesperson.

The PDP then said that “the excesses of security agencies under this government, especially the Directorate of Security Services (DSS) and the EFCC, in abridging the human rights of PDP members have become worrisome and a threat to our democratic evolution.”

The party went further to say that it was “aware of top directives to break Chief Metuh and if possible poison him during his detention by the EFCC”.

The PDP alleged that Mr Metuh has, since his arrest at about 10AM on Tuesday morning, been kept incommunicado, with his lawyers denied access to him.

The opposition party alleged that the arrest of its spokesperson is the last straw that may break Nigeria’s democracy.

The party then forewarned the Federal Government and its agencies to save the nation’s democracy and release its National Publicity Secretary.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday arrested the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr Olisa Metuh, but is yet to disclose the reasons behind the arrest.

Mr Metuh, had several days ago, released statements on alleged threat on him because of his “efforts at criticising the ruling party and the actions of the government”.

He said that on account of information available to him, he had cause to believe that the Federal Government was desperate and might have finalised plans to silence him.

EFCC Arrests PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh

metuhThe Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Olisa Metuh.

A statement issued by the Special Assistant to Mr Metuh stated that he was arrested at his home by four officials of the EFCC on Tuesday morning at about 10:00AM and was taken away in an unmarked white Hiace bus.

The statement added that the officials told the opposition party spokesman that he was being invited on a friendly note to answer questions at the anti-graft agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

A PDP official told Channels Television that efforts by Mr Metuh’s aides and lawyers to reach him has proved abortive since he was taken into custody.

Details regarding his arrest remains unclear as the EFCC is yet to disclose the reasons behind the invitation.

Mr Metuh, had several days ago, released statements on alleged threat on him because of his “efforts at criticising the ruling party and the actions of the government”.

He said that on account of information available to him, he had cause to believe that the Federal Government was desperate and might have finalised plans to silence him.

Don’t Distract Us With Frivolous Complaint, Presidency Tells PDP

shehu-presidencyNigeria’s Presidency has advised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to stop distracting the President with frivolous and unfounded allegations of selectivity in the war against corruption.

Reacting to an allegation of the opposition party, published by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Olisa Metuh, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, said that contrary to the PDP’s allegations, President Buhari did not shield any All Progressives Congress (APC) government official from facing prosecution for corruption.

The President’s spokesman explained that since President Buhari resumed office, he had never told the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) not to probe any APC Governor because they were party members.

‘Malicious And Unfounded’

According to Mr Shehu, it was convenient for the PDP to remember the cases of Sule Lamido, but it pretended not to notice the fact that former Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State, who is an APC member, was also arrested and arraigned simultaneously.

The Presidency in the statement, asked Mr Metuh to produce any evidence or instance when President Buhari interfered in the activities of the EFCC by telling them who to prosecute and who to shield from prosecution.

President Buhari’s spokesman also described as ‘malicious and unfounded’ the allegation by Metuh that “funds from the Excess Crude Account are being depleted by the Buhari’s administration to allegedly pay back APC Governors that contributed to his presidential campaign”.

He advised Mr Metuh to either come forward with evidence, or apologise to Nigerians for willfully propagating falsehoods in order to gain cheap publicity or public sympathy.

The Media aide said it was the responsibility of the former PDP administration to prosecute APC and PDP Governors whose alleged cases of corruption were brought to its attention.

He said if the unseated PDP administration had facts against APC governors, it was within its powers to prosecute them.

Following the allegation that the Buhari administration was secretly planning to award oil refining licenses to its cronies, the Presidency described the accusation as absurd and ridiculous. It stressed that the adherence to transparency and due process would always be President Buhari’s philosophy on doing things.

The Presidential statement reiterated that the Buhari-led administration was passionately committed to fighting corruption in all its ramifications and that no amount of blackmail, distraction and false allegation would deflect the President from this course, in line with his campaign promises.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has lauded Nigeria’s Service Chiefs for being at the fore front of the renewed fight against Boko Haram.

In a statement, the National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said the report that the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, personally coordinating troops is the best news to have emerged in recent times.

The party said in that “there can be no bigger boost to the morale of the gallant troops who are combating Boko Haram than the sight of their Service Chiefs personally leading the charge from one village to another, battling the insurgents or flying in a reconnaissance aircraft coordinating the various NAF platforms involved in the operation to provide close air support to ground forces.

“By their actions, Lt.-Gen. Buratai and Air Marshal Abubakar have shown that they care deeply for their troops and are determined to lead them to beat the deadline set by President Muhammadu Buhari to end the Boko Haram insurgency.”

APC described the Service Chiefs and the troops as a pride to the military and indeed to Nigeria while calling on Nigerians to continue to support their efforts
