Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu and the Chancellor of the Edo University, Iyahmo, Dr. Aderemi Makanjuola, were attacked by suspected thugs at the house of National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
Governor Obaseki and the other guests had attended the maiden convocation ceremony of the Edo University, Iyahmo, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie said the Oba of Lagos and the governor had gone to Comrade Oshiomhole’s house to honour an invitation for a lunch after the ceremony at the university.
“The former governor’s house is just opposite the university. Governor Obaseki, the Oba of Lagos and other guests had gone to Oshiomhole’s house for lunch when they were attacked by thugs led by one Romeo, said to be one of Oshiomhole’s nephews,” he said.
It took the intervention of the governor’s security to prevent a blood bath as several vehicles were smashed by the thugs.
Meanwhile, Governor Obaseki condemned the attack noting that it was shameful for such an attack to take place at the residence of the National Chairman of the ruling party in the state and at the national level.
He stressed that the resort to violence was inappropriate and an unfortunate incident.
“It is very unfortunate that we can’t feel safe in the house of our National Chairman.
“I am not sure that if I visit the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) that they will attack me the way they did in the house of the APC National Chairman.”
“It is unfortunate that things have degenerated to this extent. But we will continue to pursue peace. We cannot afford to lose the gains of the last three years. We will continue to pursue peace,” he added.
The paramount traditional ruler of Lagos State, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, has threatened to list all those who worked against the success of General Muhammadu Buhari during the 2015 general elections.
Akiolu who spoke at the occasion to mark 2, 900 days of the Babatunde Fashola administration said he is not afraid of anybody and will not hesitate to do the needful when the time comes.
“A lot of things have been happening now. Some people have been telling Buhari all sorts of things. Awujale and I have decided to meet Buhari because Lagos and South West states must benefit from the Buhari administration.
“People, who are now telling Buhari all sorts of things, are sycophants. They did not want Buhari to emerge winner in the election. These people know themselves. When it gets to a stage, I will name them one after the other. I am not afraid of human beings”, he said.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria has condemned the comments of the Oba of Lagos, which has been described as a threat to Igbos in Lagos, saying “the Oba does not speak for the APC”.
The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, had in a speech advised the Igbos in Lagos to vote for the governorship candidate he supports, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, stressing that anyone that goes against his wish will “perish in the water”, apparently referring to the Lagos Lagoon.
A day after, the comments went viral on the social media, attracting diverse comments.
The APC on Tuesday stressed that the party had not in any way engaged in hate speech, emphasising that “Lagos is a special state. It has accounted for its diversity in its cabinet. It has never been an issue till now”.
On its twitter handle the party said: “Bad is bad, irrespective of where it comes from. We highly condemn the comments made by the highly respected Oba of Lagos in strong terms.
The Oba of Lagos does not speak for the APC. From Gen. Buhari down to Desmond Elliot, even true APC supporters, no hate speeches made so far
Reports say there has been a protest in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, against the House of Assembly’s plot to impeach the State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, over alleged constitutional breaches.
Heavy security has been put in place in strategic locations in Ado Ekiti, while entry routes have been blocked and taken over by security operatives.
The political drama in Ekiti State continues as the supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state were prevented by the Police from gaining access to the State House of Assembly.
The PDP supporters, led by the Deputy Governor and a former Speaker of the House Of Assembly who claimed to be on a campaign, were said to have moved to prevent the 19 lawmakers of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from performing their legislative duties.
But the Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, Taiwo Lakanu, said that his men intervened to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had condemned what the party calls an emerging height of political recklessness in the state.
Mr Metuh said that he was worried about the impeachment plot against the Ekiti State Governor and called on the President-Elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari, to intervene as leader of the party and call the APC to order.
The Director of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Presidential Campaign Organisation, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, has condemned the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu’s alleged threat to Igbos in Lagos.
Oba Akiolu was reported to have warned Igbo leaders living in Lagos that if they vote against the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, they would be in trouble.
In a meeting with Eze Ndigbos in Lagos, Oba Akiolu had warned,”if any of you goes against Ambode, whom I picked, that is your end”.
“If it does not happen within seven days, just know that I am a bastard and it is not my father who gave birth to me”.
Reacting to this warning, Mr Femi Fani-Kayode said that the Oba’s statement, demanding the Igbos to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode or be ready to “perish inside the lagoon” is ominous and unacceptable.
In a statement released on Monday, Mr Fani-Kayode said that the threat is not one that would be swept under the carpet and warned against further intimidation of PDP members no matter their ethnic or religious background.
He added that, “we want peace and we want harmony in this country, but no one or group of people would be allowed to turn us or our supporters into slaves or give us sleepless nights”.
Mr Fani-Kayode said: “The truth is that we were threatened with ethnic cleansing and religious carnage in the North had Buhari not won the presidential election on March 28 and had President Jonathan not quickly conceded defeat. We let that go and kept the peace, but now, our traditional supporters are being threatened in Lagos and in many other states as we approach the April 11 governorship elections.
“Let two things be clearly understood. In as much as we all want peace in this country and as Jonathan has graciously and quickly conceded defeat in the presidential election, this does not mean that we are weak or powerless.
“Let it be clearly understood by all and sundry that any attempt to kill, maim or molest our supporters in the North, in the West or indeed in any other part of the country either before, during or after Saturday’s governorship elections or any attempt at ethnic or religious cleansing by the APC, their supporters or their friends and agents, would be deemed unacceptable and would be met with defiance, contempt and a well-orchestrated and solid resistance.”
Mr Fani-Kayode also stated, “These APC threats and all the attendant rubbish that go with them must stop. No one is intimidated on our side and neither do we fear for the future because God is with us; He is faithful and He is in perfect control. This is an election and it is not a war. So, we must be civilised, restrained, gentle and courteous in all our ways and dealings.
“The APC would do well to remember that they only won the presidential election by two million votes. They got 14 million votes while the PDP got 12 million votes in that election. This means that we have 12 million loyal foot soldiers and supporters in this country and that is no mean feat. Those 12 million voters cannot be ignored or treated with disdain and contempt. They must and will be respected.”
He said: “The PDP totally and unequivocally rejects the flimsy and unsubstantiated allegations concocted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) legislation against Governor Fasoye. We state in very clear terms that we will stand with him and in defence of democracy.
“We invite all lovers of democracy and the international community to note the antics of APC and the deliberate plot to destabilize the polity even when it is yet to assume power”.
He also condemned the alleged call by the Lagos Oba for vote for the APC candidate during the governorship election, a claim the Oba has refuted.
The PDP spokesperson however, called on the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, to intervene, as a leader of the party and call the Ekiti and Lagos States APC to order.
The party further called on Nigerians, especially those in Lagos and Ekiti States, to stand up fearlessly and reject the unpatriotic stance of the Oba of Lagos and the undemocratic move to dismantle the mandate given to Governor Ayo Fayose by the people.

…Vows To Resist Anti Democratic Tendencies
The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) condemns in the strongest possible terms the emerging height of political recklessness in Lagos and Ekiti states ahead of Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections and calls on all Nigerians to stand up against such anti-democratic tendencies.
The senseless and unpatriotic impeachment move against Governor Ayo Fayose by out-going APC state legislators and the barbaric death threats on non-indigenes in Lagos by the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu if they vote for the PDP candidate, Mr. Jimi Agbaje ascend to a height of unruliness that should not be accommodated.
The PDP totally and unequivocally rejects the flimsy and unsubstantiated allegations concocted by the APC legislators against Governor Fayose. We state in very clear terms that we will stand with him and bear our full weight in defense of the mandate freely given to him by the people of Ekiti state.
We invite all lovers of democracy and the international community to note the antics of APC and the deliberate plot to destabilize the polity even when it is yet to assume power.
In the same vein, it is indeed most unfortunate that a royal father of the status of the Oba of Lagos should attempt to drag the revered traditional institution into partisan politics to the level of threatening innocent Nigerians with the view to prevent them from freely exercising their constitutionally guaranteed right.
Our response to the Oba of Lagos is that he cannot play God and can never be God. God owns the universe and every part of it and can never share His glory with any human no matter how highly placed. We therefore call on all Nigerians in Lagos state; all Igbos, Hausas, Yorubas and people of other tribes; all northerners and southerners; all Christians and Muslims to turn against this unpatriotic stance, by coming out enmasse to vote for the PDP candidate, Mr. Jimi Agbaje on Saturday.
Undoubtedly, this anti-Nigeria position reminds of the 2013 inhuman and callous arrest, detention and eventual ‘deportation’ of non-indigenes by the APC-led government of Lagos state and confirms fears that the APC is indeed on a mission to destroy our national unity, balkanize the nation and obliterate the personal freedom Nigerians enjoy today.
Already, the APC has started terrorizing supporters of the PDP with vows to make life unbearable for them when it eventually assumes power. Our investigation reveals that many of our prominent supporters have been marked. The process has already started with threats to the life, family and business of the Chairman of the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN), Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah for supporting PDP candidates and helping non-indigenes win some Lagos seats in the National Assembly on the platform of the our great party.
Indeed, if this threats on a duly elected state governor and innocent Nigerians constitute the picture or foretaste of the order of the day when the APC finally assumes power at the center, then the nation is in serious danger. However, the PDP states in very unambiguous terms that Nigerians would not accept such under any guise whatsoever.
This is more so because in the last 16 years, our citizens from all walks of lives have seen civility and decorum under the PDP-led administration and would not accept any attempt by anybody to institute a reign of terror in the country
We therefore urge General Muhammadu Buhari as the leader of the APC to call his members and supporters, particularly in Lagos and Ekiti to order; especially bearing in mind that it was the peaceful atmosphere and the level playing ground nurtured by the PDP-led administration that created the room for his emergence at the presidential polls.
Our country cannot at this moment afford to slide into anarchy, reign of terror and deliberate schemes to divide the people for selfish political reasons.
The PDP will completely resist all anti democratic forces from any quarters. We therefore charge Nigerians, especially those in Lagos and Ekiti states respectively to stand up fearlessly and reject the unpatriotic stance of the Oba of Lagos and the undemocratic move to dismantle the mandate given to Governor Ayo Fayose by the people.
President Goodluck Jonathan has congratulated Oba Rilwan Babatunde Akiolu I of Lagos as he marks 70 years on October 29.

The £3000 visa bond being proposed by the United Kingdom’s Home Office for Nigerian travelers have been described as an insult to Nigerians.
The Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Akiolu at an event where the Deputy British High Commission, Peter Carter was present, said the move by the British government is an insult to Nigeria.
The British envoy later explained that the policy is a ‘pilot scheme’ which is yet to be finalised and ‘if’ it is implemented, the policy he claimed will only affect a small number of travelers who are considered as risk to due to their antecedence.
The Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona has returned to Nigeria after a four month medical trip to the United Kingdom.
He arrived at about 4.30pm aboard a Bombadier Challenger VP CNA Airplane this afternoon. The plane landed at the chartered aircraft terminal area of the domestic wing of the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Ikeja.
Oba Sikiru Adetona who was accompanied on the trip by the former governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba descended from the plane to cheers from members of his family, his cabinet, supporters, friends and Ogun State government officials.
Two Notable faces in the crowd were the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu and business magnate, Otunba Subomi Balogun.
While answering questions from journalists, the Oba said apart from his leg he is hale and hearty. He thanked everyone who rallied round him for their care and encouragement which he says made his healing process very swift.
