Davido, Wizkid, Simi Top 2018 Headies Nominee’s List

 

The 12th edition of the Headies nominees list was released on Friday with Davido, Wizkid, Simi, and Olamide dominating with multiple nominations.

The nominees’ list was released after thousands of entries were submitted in the year under review (from July 2016 – December 2017).

Hip Hop superstar Davido leads with six nominations while sonorous singer Simi, Starboy Wizkid and rapper Olamide follow with five nominations each.

The 2018 Headies Award have over 25 categories and 77 nominees

Wedding Bells? Olamide Proposes To Long-Time Girlfriend

 

Rapper, Olamide Adedeji a.k.a Baddo is off the ‘singles’ market as he has proposed to his girlfriend and long-time partner, Adebukunmi Suleiman.

The Singer who popped the question on Thursday night, shared the news to fans on his Snapchat account.

The day happened to be her birthday which also coincides with the International Women’s Day (March 8).

He wrote: ‘Happy birthday Mamito you are more than amazing…to greatness and in another post, “My senior wife… Oya we have a wedding to plan,” he said.

The couple who have been dating long before Olamide rose to fame, welcomed a son, Maximiliano Adedeji in 2015.

Olamide Drops New Single ‘Science Student’

YBNL boss, Olamide, on Thursday released his first single for the year 2018, ‘Science Student’.

The track which already has fans gushing with excitement, was co-produced by Young John and BBanks.

It comes less than two months after he dropped his 7th studio album titled ‘Lagos Nawa’.

The 17-track album featured tracks such as ‘Wo’ which has remained a major hit, and artistes such as Tiwa Savage, Reminisce and Timaya.

Since he entered the music industry, the hip-hop rapper grew famous especially among youths on the streets for his style of music, mostly delivered in the Yoruba language.

Olamide, 9ice To Thrill Fans At Lagos Street Carnival

All is set for the second edition of the Lagos Street Carnival scheduled to hold along the entire stretch of Oba Akran Avenue, Ikeja on Sunday, December 3.

The 12-hour Carnival which will commence at 12 noon will witness the parade of colours and music, setting the tone for the Christmas and New Year Celebration.

The carnival procession and musical performance will feature artistes like Olamide, Terry G, Saheed Osupa, Li Kesh, 9ice, Humble Smith, Salawa Abeni, MC Arole, Malaika, Olu Maintain, YCee, Reminisce, Big Shef, and many others.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr Fola Adeyemi in a statement on Friday said the 2017 Lagos Street Party is packaged to provide fun and entertainment for the family as well as set the stage for the One Lagos Fiesta which is to come up later date in December.

He said the carnival will witness a parade of colours by representatives of all the 57 Local Government Councils and Council Development Areas and Organised Private Sector participation from Lagos Island and other parts of the State.

According to Adeyemi, the entire stretch of the Oba Akran Avenue would be closed to vehicular traffic from Ikeja under bridge to Sapara Street and all adjoining roads.

“Alternative routes have been provided through Ile Zik to connect Ikeja, while motorists can also navigate through Akani Doherty through Ladipo Oluwole, Adeniyi Jones and Aromire road to connect Obafemi Awolowo way.

“The Entire Ikeja Axis and adjoining roads would be strategically manned by traffic managers for a seamless flow of traffic. Motorists are therefore advised to avoid these roads and if need be, follow directional signs and obey traffic officials along this route,” he said.

He also said that designated car packs have also been provided at Ikeja Local Government, Old Secretariat Compound, Ikeja, Women Development Centre, Agege and Education District 1 compound.

Skales Reveals How Olamide Supported Him When Broke

Rapper and Songwriter Raoul John Njeng popularly known as Skales has revealed the person behind the success of his music video ‘Shake Body’ heaping praises on YBNL boss, Olamide.

Skales took to his twitter page to reveal how Olamide funded his music video, when he was broke, stating that his life has never been the same since then.

Singer and songwriter Olamide has responded to the news that went viral on Friday saying he was promoting tobacco in his music video.

The rapper took to his Twitter page on Tuesday and he cleared the air.

He said, “No intentions of promoting tobacco to get people killed, I love my people, I love my country, one love, one Nigeria #ClearTheAir 🇳🇬Oya Wo.”

This is in response to the post the Ministry of Health had on their page on Friday calling out the artiste that his music video contained scenes that violated the Tobacco Control Act 2015 and that it encouraged second-hand smoking.

However, Olamide and the Ministry of Health had a conversation which hence led to Olamide’s post.

In response to Olamide’s post, The Ministry of Health appreciated the rapper’s response and also stated that  It is not in their mandate to ban music.

“Thank you rapper Olamide for your response. We respect this heart for the health of the people and your fans. Responsibility!

“We are in the business of public health promotion. It is not in our mandate to ban music. We thank Olamide for his cooperation. One Nigeria.”

The reports which have now be declared false claimed that Davido’s ‘Fall’ and ‘If’ remix with R Kelly,Olamide’s ‘Wavy Level ‘and ‘Wo’, 9ice’s ‘Living Things’ were banned.

NBC Denies Banning Songs By Olamide, Davido, 9ice

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has denied banning songs by Olamide, Davido, and 9ice.

This is coming off the back of the news that went viral on the social media on Tuesday claiming that the commission had banned songs by the artistes.

The Head of Public Affairs at the NBC, Mrs Maimuna Jimada, told Channels Television that reports of a ban were false.

According to her, the commission was surprised to see the reports making the rounds.

Amid reports of the ban, the Health Ministry which had called Olamide out over music video for his song ‘Wo’, clarified that it did not have the powers to ban songs.

The ministry had earlier tweeted the song violated the Tobacco Act.

The Federal Ministry of Health has warned Nigerians to be cautious of the health hazards contained in Olamide’s new music video ‘Wo’.

The Ministry said on its twitter handle on Friday that the video promotes a dangerous habit that encourages second-hand smoking.

They said the video, which was recently released by the YBNL boss, also contains practices accompanied with risks of cancers, respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.

According to the Ministry, the video contains scenes that violate the Tobacco Control Act 2015.

Olamide Set To Drop 6th Studio Album ‘The Glory’

Olamide, EtisalatYBNL Boss, Olamide, has revealed that he would be launching his 6th studio album, ‘The Glory’, on December 26, 2016.

The rap artist who has steadily released hit tracks for his fans over the last couple of years of his career, revealed this a couple of days ago via a face book post.

Hinting on the kind of tracks fans should expect, he said “It’ll be a hip-hop album this time, no experimenting – just rap. I’m doing this for the culture and hardcore fans”.

The Glory which he also calls a ‘street tape’, would be launched on the same day the artist would be hosting his annual music concert, ‘Olamide Live In Concert’ (OLIC) 3, Beast Mode.

This would make him the only Nigerian artist to release an album every year since starting his music career in 2011.

Olamide, popularly nicknamed Badoo, has signed on artists such as Viktoh, Adekunle Gold, Chinko Ekun, DJ Enimoney and Lil Kesh, who has gone on to create his own Label, Y.A.G.I.

New Music: Phyno Drops Album ‘The Play Maker’

The album was produced by Mastercraft, Major Bangs, Del-b, T-spice and Kezzy Clef.

The artist, originally named Azubuike Chibuzo Nelson, got into the music industry in 2010, first as a producer then later on in 2012, he started recording his songs.

He has since carved a niche for himself with his unique rap style, rendered in the Igbo language.

New Music, Phyno, 'The Play Maker' So far, his popular hit tracks include: ‘Ghost Mode’, ‘Man of the Year’, ‘Alobam’, ‘Parcel’ and ‘O Set’.

Asides his blooming music career, Phyno has signed major endorsement deals such as Guinness Nigeria’s ‘Made of Black’ campaign, alongside Olamide and Eva Alordiah.

After years of hard work, the ‘Ghost Mode’ crooner, appears to have tele-ported himself from underground hype to a household name in Nigeria and beyond.

MAMA’s: “I Really Shouldn’t Be Nominated This Year”- Davido

He said this in reaction to his exclusion from the 2016  MTV Africa Music Awards, (MAMA’s), nominations list, which was released recently.

He took to Twitter himself, saying “I really shouldn’t be nominated this year, for what??. I got three MAMAS in two years, I’m good,” while he also hinting about a comeback in 2017.davido twitter

The industry may have missed the artiste’s presence, as he is yet to release any new material in 2016 although fans anticipate his sophomore album ‘Baddest’.
