Imo Govt Defends Joint Military Operation In Orlu

The Imo State Government has defended the ongoing joint military and police operation in Orlu Local Government Area of the state, aimed at clearing camps allegedly built by members of the IPOB’s Eastern Security Network.

Briefing journalists on Friday in Owerri, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Cyprian Akaolisa, said the state government invited the military to help intervene and end the criminal activities being perpetrated by suspected members of the eastern security network.

He said intelligence reports revealed that IPOB planned to attack Orlu people and the government under the pretext of looking for Fulani herdsmen.

“The attacks on police stations and killing of policemen during #EndSARS were carried out by IPOB and not protesting youths for the sole purpose of hijacking and stealing weapons,” he said.

“They are now using those arms to destroy Orlu. They killed 10 policemen, a prominent Orlu soon, Ignatius Obiezu, and one Emmanuel Okeke and collected their Hilux vehicles.

“The IPOB also shot and killed four Moslems doing their business in Orlu. IPOB said they were looking for herdsmen, but these victims they killed before the crisis.

“Were they herdsmen? We heard Nnamdi Kanu celebrating the activities of his men in Orlu that they are doing well by killing innocent citizens. There are no Fulani herdsmen in Orlu.”

The group is being accused of being behind the recent violence that resulted in the death of some residents and security operatives in the state.

Thugs Set INEC Office In Imo On Fire After Supplementary Elections


The office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Orlu local government area of Imo state has been set ablaze by unknown persons.

Confirming the incident to Channels Television, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Orlando Ikeokwu, said the incident happened in the early hours of Monday and no casualty was recorded, adding that electoral materials and properties belonging to INEC staff were burnt beyond recognition.

He stated that the Imo state Commissioner of Police, Olaniyi Fafowora, has ordered that an investigation into the matter be launched to ascertain the true cause of the fire and also arrest the perpetrators.

This incident is coming less than one week after the winner of the Orlu/Orsu/Oru East Federal Constituency Supplementary election was announced by INEC.

During the collation of results after the election, thug’s reportedly invaded same INEC office; drove away the returning officer, INEC officials and carted away ballot papers and result sheets used for the supplementary election which made the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Francis Ezeonu, move the collation and announcement of result to the electoral body’s headquarters in Owerri after 72 hours.

Imo State Government Embarks On Control Of Gully Erosion

While inspecting the ongoing project at Works Layout, the Imo state Governor Rochas Okorocha said the ongoing erosion control project will go a long way to alleviate the suffering of the people in the area.

He noted that the road when completed will serve as a link and bypass for commuters wishing to link IMSU junction to Orlu road and Amakohia as this will practically reduce the traffic congestion within the owerri Municipal.

He appealed to residents of the area to cooperate with the state government so as to achieve a durable and lasting solution to the erosion menace because the state government will soon commence the demolition of some buildings and fences built on drainages and water ways.

The Governor also disclosed that the Works Layout Erosion Control will also engineer the construction of another inner ring road within the state capital which will bring traffic congestion in the city to its barest minimal.
