The people of Oja Odan town in Ogun state will not be too excited during this yuletide season after all as herdsmen attacked farmers in the community, killing one and wounding several others.

The residents are still reeling from the bloodshed which occurred on Friday when nomadic herdsmen allegedly invaded farmlands in the town on border with the Republic of Benin, destroying farms and crops.

Confirming the incident to our correspondent, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun state; Mr Muyiwa Adejobi says no arrests have been made so far.

The herdsmen allegedly killed one Agbaose Sewotan after their cows entered his farm, destroying everything on their  path  including food and cash crops.

Chairman of Yewa North Local government, Hon Tajudeen Alani while reacting to the incident said, government would look into the matter with a view to preventing future occurrences. He said that Ogun State government is worried with the development, and will find a lasting solution.

He said the state government had already set up a committee comprising of the people of the community, Fulani herdsmen and government officials to address the disturbing issue which is likely to cause mayhem in the South west if not checked.

The attack is one of several clashes known to occur between herdsmen roving the Nigeria-Benin border and residents of villages at the border communities, especially during the dry season.
