A group under the auspices of Kogi Concern Youths Association in Kogi State has called on the Federal Government and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to postpone the February 14 election in the interest of the nation.
Addressing journalists in Lokoja during a protest on Wednesday, the leader of the group, Comrade Ade Ismail, said the protest was to register their displeasure over a suggestion credited to the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Asuki, (rtd)that the general elections should be postponed.
First, they all gathered in a hall with most of them holding placard with different inscriptions, their leader, Comrade Ismail, who addressed them stated that “as youths, they support the position of INEC to conduct the election come February 14”.
After a meeting at the hall, the youth took to the street of Lokoja, chanting songs of no election postponement and telling the public that 14 February election remains unchanged.
Mr Ismail said INEC had assured the nation that they were ready to hold the election as scheduled.
The electoral body had said that the distribution of the permanent Voters Card was on course and that it was working hard to ensure that all issues were sorted out before the election.
The group wondered why there was a call for the election postponement.
According to the women leader of the group, Safrat Anuhi, called on the people of the state to reject the call for postponement, as they had all collected their permanent voters card.
