students of crutech appeal to the state government and ASUU to call off the 3 months old strikeStudents of the Cross River State University of Technology (CRUTECH) are appealing to the Cross River State Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to address their lingering issues and call-off the over three months old strike.

The students made the call in Calabar, the State Capital on Tuesday.

While ASUU is blaming the state government for not paying its accumulated allowances for a number of years, as reasons for the prolonged strike, the state government is also accusing the school management of insensibility to the dwindling economy of the state.

ASUU is also requesting the release of adequate funds to the university for NUC accreditation.

CRUTECH had embarked on the strike in early January this year over the refusal of the state government to pay salary arrears and other outstanding allowances.

The Governor-elect, Professor Ben Ayade, however, assured the students that the lingering issues would be resolved between both parties, upon assumption of office on May 29.

Professor Ayade, also gave assurances that his administration would look at ways of providing a business climate where the school generates its own wealth, as practiced in some developed countries.
