NSCDCThe Nigerian Army has destroyed an illegal oil bunkering site in Rivers State.

Troops of Sector 2 Operation Pulo Shield carried out anti illegal oil bunkering operation in Tamunotonye Ama in Ogu Bolo Local Government Area in Rivers State on Sunday.

According to the army, 8 large barges loaded with illegally refined automated gas oil were arrested, two of which were estimated to have the capacity of 7 tanker trucks.

Other illegal bunkering equipment were also discovered. The barges were towed to Ogoloma Jetty and the site was destroyed.

However, the Commander Operation of Pulo Shield, Major General Alani Okunlola, had earlier led troops and Journalists to the area, only to discover that the place was up and running.

The Commander told Journalists that the site was used for massive crude oil theft activities.

The Major General, nonetheless, insisted that full military operation against the suspected oil thieves would be sustained.

Maj. Gen. Okunlola further noted that for the fight against oil theft to continue to yield positive results, sources of the crude must be uncovered and suspected owners of illegal bunkering sites prosecuted.
