Some prominent political leaders and traditional rulers in Abia State have condemned as perverse, and reckless, the recent judgment given by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The judge in his ruling, asked the sitting governor of the state, Mr Okezie Ikpeazu to vacate his seat.

The elder statesmen, led by a former governorship candidate in Abia State, Mr Onyema Ugochukwu, are also criticizing the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue a Certificate of Return to the main challenger in the PDP primaries of April 2015, Mr Samson Ogah.

Mr Ugochukwu said the leaders are concerned that the court ruling, which has thrown the state into uncertainty and confusion, might snowball into full scale unrest if the situation, which they tagged a conspiracy involving INEC to throw the state into anarchy, is not halted.

Treasonable Felony

Meanwhile, a Civil Society Group under the aegis of Abia Interest Group is calling for the arrest of Mr Ogah over what it calls a treasonable felony to upturn a democratically elected governor.

The group, led by its Director General, Mr Eze Chikamnayo, said the arrest of Dr Ogah, who is the main challenger in the party primaries which produced the gubernatorial candidate for April 2015 governorship elections in the state, will serve as deterrent to any group or persons who intend to jeopardize the peace of the state.

The groups said there is need to ensure that Abia State does not become another flashpoint in yet another geopolitical zone of the country resulting from unnecessary controversies.
