English Premier League leaders, Arsenal and 3rd placed Liverpool will put each other’s title credentials under scrutiny when they meet on Saturday, November 2.

The visit of Liverpool, who have 20 points, is only the second time Arsenal will have met a team with realistic top-four ambitions after the Gunners beat local rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking at Arsenal’s London Colney training ground on Friday, Wenger said: “It’s a big game for us and massively important. But I don’t worry for where the teams are, you know, between the team with 14 and the team with eight; there are two points or three points. The table at the moment has no real significance.”

Liverpool’s Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge have proved a very potent strike force and Wenger acknowledged that they would have to be contained on Saturday.

“I accept that, that one of the targets of the game is to keep these two players quiet because they are certainly among the top, top strikers in the league,” said the Frenchman.

Given the recent losses and the upcoming Champions League clash at Dortmund on Wednesday, November 6, Wenger was asked about the squad’s attitude.

“The mood is very strong, very united and as well, very focussed. We know where our priorities are: it is in the Premiership and in the Champions League. And we are in a strong position in the Premier League of course and that’s why our mood is, is positive,” said the Gunners’ boss.

Wenger tried to sign Liverpool’s Suarez during the summer, even though there were media reports of some doubts in the Arsenal camp over the Uruguayan’s occasionally controversial behaviour.

“Well that’s a debate I don’t want to go in it now. You know, it’s not the right place 24 hours before a game like that to speak about that,” said Wenger.

Arsenal top the table with 22 points and have only lost one league match this season, but have been beaten by Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League and Chelsea in the League Cup in the past week.
