Addressing members of the legal profession at the formal opening of the 2011/2012 legal year of the FCT High Court, Justice Gummi observed that the increasing number of cases being filed in the nation’s capital is an indication that the alternative dispute resolution option is not being properly explored.

He advised judges in the federal capital territory to ensure quick dispensation of justice.

At a gathering of Magistrates, Khadis and Judges of the FCT High Court with the Chief Judge of the FCT leading the procession to signal the commencement of the New Year, inspected a ceremonial guard of honour.

Minister of FCT, Sen. Bala Mohammed pledged that his administrations will work with the judiciary to explore ways of reducing litigations in the federal capital territory.

The attorney general of the federation and minister of justice, Mister Mohammed Adokie who was represented by a senior special assistant, Peter Akpe (SAN), decried the increasing delay of trial by some judges.

The occasion which attracted senior lawyers and top government officials is an annual event which signifies the commencement of a new legal year but the question on the lips of observers is whether litigants will heed the advice of the chief judge of the FCT to explore the Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanism.
