Rivers state governor Rotimi Amaechi says the federal government is on the verge of finding a solution to the ongoing nationwide strike.

Speaking to journalists after a meeting of top government officials at the Senate President’s residence in Abuja, Governor Amaechi hinted of a possibility that the nationwide strike embarked upon by organized labor would be resolved soon.

He said the delegation from the federal government side came to see the senate president to present a proposal to him which they think is a solution to the crisis.

Governor Amaechi however did not disclose what this proposal is.

Also in attendance at the meeting were the senate president Senator David Mark, speaker of the house of representatives Honorable Aminu Tambuwal, ministers of petroleum and finance Mrs. Diezani Allison- Madueke and Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala, as well as governors Adams Oshiomole and Rotimi Amaechi and other top government officials.

The minister of petroleum said government is trying to ensure a speedy resolution to the crises in the interest of Nigerians.

In a related development, Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom state has appealed to the Nigeria Labour Congress to call off the nationwide strike over the government’s withdrawal subsidy from petroleum.

The governor told Channels Television in Abuja that the withdrawal of subsidy has become necessary because Nigeria has been subsidizing petrol used by countries in West African as a result of smuggling.
