The Chairman of the Pension Reform Taskforce Committee, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina says about a N151 billion fraud has been uncovered in the pension offices across the country through the assistance and intervention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

At a visit to the Commission’s Headquarters, Mr. Maina disclosed that about N39 billion worth of properties were also recovered by the commission in conjunction with the task force team, while 66 illegal bank accounts were also discovered.
Mr. Maina added that the non-payment of pensioners’ claims was not as a result of the lack of funds, but due to large scale corruption and mismanagement on the part of officials.
While asking the commission to ensure that the perpetrators of these crimes are brought to book, Maina urged the commission to continue to work closely with the task force team to ensure that such incidences are prevented in the future.
On his part, Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde assured Nigerians that the 42 persons standing trial for the scam at the pension commission will be prosecuted to the full extent of thel aw.
He added that investigations are still ongoing to ensure that anyone found wanting is punished accordingly.
