Two people were injured and seven motorcyclists injured on Thursday when a tipper lorry lost control at a checkpoint in Gonin Gora satellite town in Kaduna.

The victims had been crossing the checkpoint when the truck driver, carrying a load of sand, lost control due to a break failure and ran into the motorcyclists.

“We were standing by the other side of the road when we saw the truck speeding to the checkpoint, the driver was shouting ‘ba burki, ba burki!’ (No break, no break).

“The driver lost control and ran into the motorcyclist, killing two and injuring several others and damaging all the motorcycles.

“ One of the victims, a lady, died instantly.“

Col. Sani Usman, a spokesman for the military confirmed the horrid incident, blaming loss of control on the part of the truck driver.

“I seize this opportunity to convey our sympathy to the families of all those who lost their lives and to those victims who sustained injury and got their motorcycles damaged,“ Usman said.

The injured victims have been taken to St. Gerald’s Hospital in Kaduna for medical treatment and Usman has called on the people to be patient and understanding with the military as they strive to ensure the safety of residents of the northern state.
