The president of the institute of public analyst of Nigeria, Mr Ganiyu Sanni has appealed to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to offer a prime lending rate to scientific organizations in the country.

Addressing a gathering in Abuja, Mr Sanni said its request for a reduction of interest rate charged science institutions by financial institutions in the country will assist science based institutions acquire modern equipment which are usually imported from other parts of the world.

He said that over the years, public analysts practice in Nigeria has suffered many challenges owing to lack of funds.

According to Mr Sanni, the institute which has the mandate for the accreditation of laboratories used in analysis and quality control of consumables in Nigeria has not been able to carry its mandate owing to lack of access to funds.

Aside how to provide more equipment for its laboratories, the experts are asking for a total flush out of unprofessional public analyst beginning from the federal level.

Another area of concern for the scientist was the need to reduce environmental pollution across the country.

The gathering was organized by members of the institute for public analyst of Nigeria to keep its participants abreast of issues that affect the practice of public analyst.
