The House of Representatives has appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to direct the release of funds to the 15 local governments’ councils where the state of emergency is imposed.

The president had in December 2011, declared a state of emergency in three northern states of Niger, Borno and Yobe in the wake of bombings and killings by the Boko Haram sect in the local governments.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal said the aim of the emergency rule in the councils is to facilitate the restoration of security and orderliness and not to starve the councils of their allocations.
