The Kogi state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has held a hitch-free ward congress across the 239 wards in the 21 local government areas of the state to elect new party leaders.

The congress which was held across the state simultaneously was very peaceful as the party supporters trooped to the polling centres to elect new ward executive of the party who will pilot affairs of the party in the next four year

At the eastern senatorial district, Odu One in Dekina local government area the exercise was also conducted peacefully.

Governor Idris wada who monitored the congress in the area commended them for the peaceful conduct and urged them to remain peaceful while government on is part will work heard to bring dividend of democracy to their door steps.

At the Iyara ward where Channels TV visited, most of the people came out to elect their new party executives, under a tight security. Voting was conducted peacefully and the new chairman, Chief Samuel Dada was elected.

The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial district of the state, Senator Smart Adeyemi who monitored the congress at Iyara Ijumu local government area, commended the people of the area for the peaceful conduct of ward congress.

He explained that the enthusiasm and tension that were witnessed during the congress was because it was PDP, stressing that PDP is the largest party with many interest groups.

The law maker who also commended the state governor, Captain Idris Wada for allowing a level playing ground for everybody to participate in the party’s ward congress, pointed out that it was unlike in the past when government manipulates ward congress.

Also at the state capital, Lokoja, the congress was held at Ward E and Ward A peacefully as people came to elect their party executives.
