The Anambra state governor, Mr. Peter Obi, has promised to assist in the reconstruction of the Ojukwu Memorial Library in Owerri, Imo state, which collapsed six days ago.

The Governor made this known during his visit to the site at new Owerri layout alongside the leader of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) Ralph Uwazurike and wife of the late Igbo leader, Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu.

The collapsed building, a collective effort of the MASSOB to immortalize Ojukwu, was still under construction.

Members of the group believe that the collapse is the handiwork of detractors.

The initiator of the project, Chief Uwazurike, while recounting the story of the collapse said he suspected that the building collapse was the handiwork of ‘anti Igbo’ elements.

He also alleged that before the collapse of the building, they had received several threats.

Mrs. Ojukwu described the incident as unfortunate while noting that the motive behind it is unclear.

Governor Obi stated that as an All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) member, any project initiated in honour of the late Ikemba will continue to receive his support irrespective of who initiated it.

He explained that Ojukwu remains the leader of APGA and an Igbo icon and at such deserves every honor.
