Six suspected armed robbers specialising in car snatching were on Wednesday paraded by the Borno state Police command. The command recovered 23 vehicles, motorcycles and tricycles from the robbers confirmed to have being snatched at various gun points, residences or parking lots of people in Maiduguri metropolis.
Parading the suspected robbers at the police headquarters, Maiduguri, the state Police Commissioner, Alhaji Yuguda Abdullahi said that the suspects had been invading the privacy of citizens’ residences to rob them of their vehicles and valuables, as well as large sums of money.
“The police command has taken the battle to the door steps of these notorious syndicates; several of which have been smashed in the last month” Abdullahi said in a statement
He said the syndicates are now being interrogated, and upon completion of the preliminary investigations they will be arraigned before the court of law.
The statement calls on owners of the vehicles to come forward with proper identifications and proofs of ownership to the police headquarters for recovery.
The police chief in the statement also advised residents to be more careful about “where and how” they park their vehicles, adding that glasses should be wound up and car doors locked, while dark and trouble areas should be avoided.
He called on the people to fully cooperate with security agents in the search for peace in the state.
