A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana has called on the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Mohammed Bello Adoke to publicly apologise to the governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole for the misleading statement that the office of the Attorney-General does not give legal advice to the police with regards to state offences.

Speaking at the first year Anniversary of the murder of late Olaitan Oyerinde, former Principal Private Secretary of Governor Adams Oshiomhole, which took place at the Imaguero College, Benin City, Mr Falana said, while the case of murder is a state offence the constitutional duty to protect the lives of every person in Nigeria, Nigerians and foreigners alike is binding on the federal government.

He advised the Edo state government to set up a coronary inquest into the killing of late Oyerinde.

He said that an inquest would enable the government to fish out the killers without relying on the police and that states like Lagos had already keyed into the practise and it was working.

Mr Falana said that the important thing was what they could offer and not where they were from.

Speaking earlier, Governor Oshiomhole described the late Oyerinde as a selfless and multi lingua person, saying that it was the duty of the government to keep his memory alive.

Peter Esele, the President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), also advised Nigerians to strive to work for that which they would be remembered for.
