Akachukwu recalled that Nwoye was duly elected during a primary election “conducted by the national working committee of the PDP led by Alhaji Bamanga Tukur”.
He added that “in a fairly conducted primary on the 28th of August, Tony Nwoye pulled 493 votes to 350 votes to defeat Nicholas Ukachukwu in a free and fair primary conducted in the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
He further noted that obtaining a court order wouldn’t have given Ukachukwu the mandate he is seeking because “the courts do not give political parties their candidates” adding that “the people do”.
He debunked the claim that the national leadership of the party temporarily dumped Tony Nwoye when a court judgement favoured his opponent Nicholas Ukachukwu.
He insisted that “The PDP led by Bamanga Tukur and our able president, never wavered for one second over the candidature of Tony Nwoye” maintaining that “Tony Nwoye was elected in a popular election”.
Akachukwu, who was a guest on Channels Television’s political programme, Politics Today, said the PDP submitted the name of Tony Nwoye by September 17th and was acknowledged by the Independent National Election Commission (INEC).
He noted that INEC in a “publication to Nigerians included Ukachuwku’s name by a court’s order” revealing that the name of a running mate was not included in the publication.
