Hearing in the suit filed by the People’s Democratic Party against the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, over the defection of some members of the House has been fixed for January 20, 2014.

At the resumed hearing of the suit, lawyer to the defendant, Mister Sebastine Hon, told the court that the suit was not ripe for hearing, as hearing notices were served on him late in the evening of Friday.

Lawyer to the plaintiff, Mister Yunus Usman, however argued for the hearing of the suit, saying that the defendants had enough time to respond to issues raised in the suit. He further said that the hearing could go on since the court had abridged time to enable parties file necessary papers.

Having listened to arguments of both parties, Justice Adeniyi Adetokunbo-Ademola ordered the defendants to respond to the plaintiff’s motion and subsequently adjourned the suit to January 20 for hearing.

The People’s Democratic Party, PDP had gone to court seeking an order of the court restraining the Speaker of the House of Representatives and its members from effecting any change in the leadership of the House over the defection of some members.
