The All Progressives Congress, APC, has said that the disruption of its registration process in Rivers State is a shot to the heart of democracy and a breach of the country’s constitution.

The APC claims that one person has been killed in the process, where it alleges about 50 hoodlums stormed some of the registration points in the state shooting sporadically.

The party also said that the armed hoodlums hijacked registration materials, mobile phones, cameras and also beat up registration officials in the process.

The APC is accusing a group it called the grassroots development initiative and the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, for spear-heading the attacks.

The party is asking the President to act on the situation as it claims Rivers State is the only state where such has happened since it commenced its registration exercise.

Unknown gunmen allegedly stormed a registration point in Degema area of Rivers State, opened fire and killed a youth on the spot.

This is the latest face off in the political situation in the state and it comes barely 24 hours after the Inspector-General of Police redeployed Mr Joseph Mbu the Police boss in the state after several months of agitation from the pro Amaechi group.

Mr Mbu and 22 other senior Police officers were redeployed on Thursday.
