The Academic Staff Union of Universities in Nigeria under the Centre for Energy Research has urged the Federal Government to ensure adequate funding of research development centres.

Speaking at a news conference jointly organised by the Obafemi Awolowo University and the Ahmadu Bello University chapters of ASUU, a member of the centre, Professor Eusibus Obiajunwa, expressed the concern of the centre over the neglect of research development.

Professor Obiajunwa specifically decried the neglect of the Centre for Energy Research and training in Zaria, Kaduna State and the Centre for Energy Research and Development in Ile Ife, Osun State.

He also said that the two centres had not been allocated capital vote since 2001.

The union had embarked on last year for over six months to push for a demand for the revitalisation of tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
