Following the commencement of the 3-day warning strike embarked by resident doctors across the country, various appeals have been made to the parties involved to embrace dialogue to avoid a colossal loss of lives.
In an interview with Channels Television, spokesperson of the National Hospital, Dr Tayo Haastrup, noted that the welfare package of resident doctors can be negotiated with the Federal Government without putting the security of lives of teeming Nigerians at stake.
He further underscored the need to apply caution in resolving the matters at stake, particularly as the nation grapples with the current security situation.
He added that strike actions only serve to dwindle the nation’s healthcare system.
Meanwhile, the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) who is demanding proper implementation of the integrated payroll and personnel information system, as well as adequate funding among others has threatened to go ahead with an indefinite strike after the 3-day warning strike, if the Federal Government does not respond appropriately.
