Dupe-Atoki (1)The Nigerian Consumers’ Protection Council has given a six month ultimatum to manufacturers and dealers of food and drugs to provide proper storage facilities for their products or risk confiscation.

The Executive Director of the Commission, Mrs Dupe Atoki, urged manufacturers to use the period to train distributors on how best to store their products. She called on regulators and manufacturers to ensure that quality products and services are produced and delivered across the country.

Mrs Atoki was speaking during a forum organised for manufacturers and consumers of goods and services in Nigeria, for the purpose of sensitising them on the dangers of ignoring expiry dates of products.

The organisers say some manufacturers and dealers have taken undue advantage of consumers’ ignorance to flood the market with expired products.

Apart from the Consumer Protection Council, members of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and traders association appear to be speaking with one voice at the forum.

If those words are matched with action, it appears there is tough time ahead for manufacturers and distributors of expired products in the country.
