The federal government has said it would go back to the drawing board and re-strategise towards providing additional security to 0 Nigeria’s institutions of learning.
This statement came as suspected terrorists, bombed a classroom where students were receiving lectures in the Federal College Of Education (FCE), Kano and shooting sporadically, leaving 17 dead with several others injured.
According to the Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau, who led federal government delegates to the Federal College of Education in Kano said it was unfortunate that innocent students have become target of insurgency in the state.
Ibrahim Shekarau who was accompanied by Senator Adamu Alero, NEMA officials and other top government functionaries said that the federal government is doing all it could to find a lasting solution to the current insurgency in the North as he commiserated with the college and parents of the affected victims.
The minister explained that all hands must be on deck as government would adopt new tactics in protecting the institutions of learning.
One of the surviving victims of the attack, Ahmed Ibrahim, told our correspondent that students were receiving lecture when armed men stormed their class shooting sporadically which was followed by an explosion.
Another victim, a young boy, said he was selling sachet water at the gate when someone in black shot him in the leg.
Although there have been no report of increase in death toll , the NEMA Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Musa Ilallah said a total of 17 persons lost their lives from the attack as against 15 by the police.
The minister also commiserated with the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi and paid him a visit in his palace. Meanwhile, FCE Kano has been temporarily shut down.
