SecurityA Development Consultant, Tony Iyare, has criticized the media for misleading Nigerians on the security situation of the country.

Speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily, Mr Iyare said that there are about 16 Local Government Areas in each state, and it would be impossible for Boko Haram to hold an entire state captive.

“I don’t think the media is putting the correct narrative to use,” he said.

“Sometimes the media will say the entire north-east is taken over by Boko Haram, they don’t know what it means for the entire north-east to be taken over.

“The north-east of Nigeria used to consist of three big states, old Bauchi, old Borno and old Gongola, these states are split into two or three more states.”

Mr. Iyare also advised Government to take issues of Nigeria’s security more serious before attending to national development. “We should do secretarial analysis, the leaders should elevate the discuss,” he said.

Mr Iyare also criticized  previous governments for not living up to expectations in terms providing quality education, health care services, employment amongst others.

He suggested that there is the need for a systemic breakdown and analysis to see how these issues can be fixed with the media playing its part responsibly by always seeking concrete details to help elevate the discuss.
