The Western Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy has arrested 3 men suspected to be engaged in illegal crude oil bunkering.
At a press briefing in Lagos, the Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Samuel Ilesanmi Alade, said that the arrest was carried out following intelligence tips which led to the interception of a vessel MV long island outside the Lagos bar.
He said that while the hijackers were being interrogated, a sample of the stolen product has been sent to the Department of Petroleum Resources for confirmation.
He promised that at the end of investigations, the Navy would hand over the suspects, the vessel and the product to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
