The Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, says since 2011 to date, the Yobe State government has cumulatively expended over 10 billion Naira on curbing insurgency.
Addressing a gathering at a fundraising ceremony for his re-election as the Governor of the state in the 2015 general elections, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam said within the period, his administration had been playing a supportive role in meeting the logistics and other needs of security forces.
He said that the state government had supported the security agencies with the procurement of vehicles, payment of allowances, medical treatment to injured security personnel and assistance to families of those killed in the war with members of the Boko Haram among others.
The Governor expressed concerns that the money expended in the fight against insurgency could have been used for provision of social services.
“Our accumulated expenditure from the beginning of the insurgency to date is over 10 billion naira. It is obvious that the security challenges have slowed down the execution of our policies and programmes because funds that could have been used for the provision of social services are being deployed to support the fight against insurgency,” Gaidam said.
He also expressed concerns that the Federal Government, which controlled the security agencies, had failed to permanently address the Boko Haram uprising.
Ibrahim Gaidam also said that from 3 November 2014 to date, Yobe State had passed through seven major attacks on Damaturu, the State capital, Potiskum, Damagum, Geidam and Babbangida pointing out that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has failed in that regards.
The All Progressive Party (APC) according to him is reaching out to concerned Nigerians to understand the importance of change by given the APC an opportunity to give Nigerians a better governance.
Governor Gaidam described the security situation across the north-east as unfortunate and deplored the harsh realities people had face, struggling to curb the insurgency.
He called on the APC’s supporters to strengthen their resolves and commitments to ensure victory for the APC so as to change the pathetic security situation.
The governor assured indigenes of the state of his commitment to consolidate on the achievements so far recorded and solicited the support of the people towards the realisation of his dreams for the state.
While thanking those that contributed funds to his campaign organisation Governor Gaidam said the money would be used for advertisements and campaigns in the media apart from logistics.
Over 495 million Naira was recorded from the fundraising which drew friends, family members and well-wishers of the governor towards his return bid.
