The opposition party had last week submitted a petition to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), urging the commission to investigate their claims that the Governor was promoting human rights abuse in the state.
On Friday, a delegation of the state government, led by the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Owoseni Ajayi, visited the National Human Rights Commission to refute the allegations by the opposition APC.
According to him, the allegations submitted by the opposition were baseless and a product of desperation to smear the image of the governor.
He also accused the past government of Kayode Fayemi of covering justice.
The Executive Secretary of the commission, Professor Bem Angwe, promised to investigate the cases presented and bring the culprits to justice.
“If the allegations prove to be untrue, the commission will not hesitate to punish anyone that comes to it with false allegations,” he said.
Also, the chairman of the commission, Professor Chidi Odinkalu, asked politicians to stop the killing of police officers in the state, stressing that the commission would bring anyone perpetrating crime in the state to justice.
