The President of the union, Mr Ibrahim Khaleel, made the demand on Tuesday.
According to the union, the states have continued to abuse the funds meant for the development of the Local Government Areas.
At a joint press conference with the Nigeria Labour Congress in Abuja, Mr Ibrahim told reporters that the union was brainstorming on a new strategy to engage the FG in granting their request.
The local council demand is coming few months after the Federal Government ordered all Ministries Department and Agencies to remit all government’s revenue into a Treasury Single Account (TSA).
Promote Transparency
President Muhammadu Buhari had, in line with his efforts in tackling corruption in Nigeria, directed Ministries, Departments, and Agencies including the CBN, NNPC, NPA and NIMASA, among others to make payments into the Treasury Single Account.
According to the Presidency, the directive was meant to promote transparency and facilitate compliance with sections 80 and 162 of the Nigerian Constitution.
President Buhari further set a deadline of September 15, 2015, for full compliance with his directive that all revenue due to the Federal government or any of its agencies must be paid into the TSA or designated accounts maintained and operated in the CBN, except otherwise expressly approved.
