OgunOgun State Police Command has arrested and paraded four suspected bank robbers with explosive devices meant for operation in Ijebu Ode area of the state.

Parading the suspects at the Police Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of finance and administration, Celestine Okoye, said that the suspected robbers were arrested in October with four explosive devices and connective wires.

The Deputy Commissioner said that all the suspects were coming from Delta State to meet another leader of the syndicate simply identified as Wisdom who was arranging the operation in Ijebu Ode.

Three of the suspects; Gelebele Aitlabor, Moses Demene and Friday Saborom are indigens of Delta State while the fourth, Mohammadu Kaidiri was said to be from Edo State.

The Police boss explained that the suspects were still under investigation and would be charged to court at the appropriate time.

He said, “Information was received by Policemen on patrol at Ayepe town that some men were seen with bags and on the receipt of the information, they were intercepted by the team.

“On search on the bags, four explosive devices with three connective wires were recovered from them. The suspects confessed that they were coming from Delta State to meet their gang leader named Wisdom in Ogun State, now at large, to rob.”

While speaking with newsmen, Demene, who identified himself as the leader of the group, said that he was aware of a robbery plan on a bank in Ijebu Ode and had to call Gelebele who was in possession of the explosives.

He said that they were on their way to meet the leader of the group after alighting from a bus from Delta when an Okada rider suspected them and invited the Police.

The Police also paraded a member of a trans-border robbery syndicate, Atevonou Sesco, who was arrested after successfully snatching a Toyoya Sequoia Jeep with registration number Lagos, EPE 956 DP in Ilase, Idiroko area of the state.

The Police boss explained that efforts to get the owner of the jeep has yielded no result, a situation which gives the impression that the owner might have been killed during the operation.

Nine other suspects were also paraded for various offences ranging from fraud, cultism, armed robbery and murder, while series of exhibits were also recovered.
