The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has intercepted a truck loaded with petrol at an illegal fuel depot in Imo State.
The interception, which was made in Orji axis of Owerri, the Imo State capital, was revealed to reporters by the state Commandant of NSCDC, Pedro Ideba.
He said his men acted on a tip off by members of the public who intelligently informed the command about the illegal activity going on in the area.
According to the NSCDC boss, such act was clearly an economic sabotage and was also one of the major causes of the fuel crisis rocking the state in recent months.
While expressing disappointment over the incident, he warned indigenes of the state to be more vigilant because such could cause severe fire outbreak that could lead to loss of lives and properties, stressing that the depot was situated in the middle of a densely populated residential area.
The two suspects, who were arrested at the site of the discharge, denied involvement in the illegal business, saying that they were just invited to help in the offloading of the product.
