
He, however, added that the process will be a gradual one that requires the support of other security agencies.
Speaking during a tour of formations in the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, General Buratai confirmed that the suicide bomb blasts in Umarari-Molai in the outskirts of Maiduguri, Borno State as an act of desperation from what is left of the Boko Haram terrorists.
The Army chief made the declaration on Wednesday while addressing journalists at the 4 Brigade Headquarters of the Nigerian Army in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
Committed To Ending Insurgency
Speaking earlier at the Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Odogbo in Ibadan, General Buratai noted that the intensity of the onslaught against terrorism has been increased and this has resulted in the noticeable reduction of attacks in the northeast.
Although, it may seem unending to many Nigerians who have had to cope with the consequences of the Boko Haram terror, he added that the military was committed to ending the insurgency.
“Terrorism is a global phenomenon. It may seem unending but I want to assure you that here in Nigeria, we are working hard to ensure that the Boko Haram terrorists are completely eliminated. We still have some remnants of them but we are closing up and clearing them by the day,” he said.
