The Federal Government has appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to invest in the education and empowerment of women in order to enable them contribute towards mitigating the effects of climate change.
Speaking in Abuja at a National Consultative Forum on Gender and Climate Change, the Minister of Environment, Amina Mohammed, said women’s responsibilities in households and communities as stewards of natural and household resources, places them in a better position to contribute to strategies adapted to changing environmental realities.
The Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme, Opiah Kumah, however lamented the economic and political power of women which exposes them to adverse effects of the changing climate.
