The Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, has read a riot act on cultism in the state, threatening to jail anyone who violates the cultism law.

The governor who emphasised his administration’s zero-tolerance for cultism and other criminal activities, said any student caught would not only be jailed for 10 years but also rusticated.

He made the comments while speaking at the 23rd combined convocation ceremony of the state polytechnic.

Ahmed also warned parents and guardians to monitor their wards against bad peer groups, adding that they should be moulded to contribute positively to the socio-economic development of the state.

He further explained that asides formal education obtained from the institutions, students do not necessarily have to end up in the line of their course of study.

“You must go out and adapt to several skills that will make you beneficial to yourself and the society, ” Ahmed said.

Furthermore, he stated that “while most students are responsible and focus to achieve success in their chosen careers, a small number decide to indulge in negative and criminal behavior such as cultism.

“Let me make this abundantly clear that my administration has zero tolerance for cultism, I repeat, zero tolerance for cultism within and outside academic institutions.

“Anyone found guilty in the involvement in such illegality risk a ten years jail term, hefty fine and rustication and parents and guardians must keep an eye on their wards,” the governor stressed.
