The German Open semi-final ended when Philipp Kohlschreiber retired injured from his match with Florian Mayer on Saturday.

The all-German match in Hamburg was going well for Kohlschreiber before his retirement, which was apparently due to an abductor muscle injury.

The 33-year-old had won the opening set 6-4 but at 2-2 in the second set, he hit a forehand into the net and proceeded to smash his racket against the ground.

The injured Kohlschreiber then shook hands with Mayer and the umpire before again smashing his racket in frustration.

Mayer now goes through to the final on Sunday to face lucky loser Leonardo Mayer of Argentina who won through after beating his compatriot Federico Delbonis 6-3 7-5 earlier in the day.
