Celebrated British designer Julien Macdonald displayed his Spring/Summer 2018 collection in London on Monday.
The show came with a surprise appearance from former Brazilian model Alessandra Ambrosio, while Macdonald explained his regrets on using animal fur in the past.
Macdonald unveiled a range with a ‘parallel universe’ concept. The spring-like collection was made up of green and cobalt outfits shown to a packed audience at the Bankside Vaults, near London Bridge.
A team of models, including Canadian Winnie Harlow and Martha Hunt, wore a mixture of intricate beadwork, crystal mesh, and lace on sheath dresses. Inspired by an Amazonian rainforest trip, the fashion designer also used foliage motifs.
Macdonald, who used animal fur in the past, wanted to set the record straight about his new position.
“You do not need to kill animals to wear nice clothes. You know what? It was my mistake. I was young. I am sorry. I apologize,” said the 46-year-old fashion designer.
Macdonald, a former chief designer at Givenchy, also voiced his opinions on the growing trend ‘See Now, Buy Now’, saying it is a “fashion joke.”
“It is just a gimmick of fashion designers to try to make more money from the customers. What happens is, you see now, you buy now, you go to buy it, not available,” he said.
London Fashion Week runs until Tuesday (September 19).
