The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has assured the Federal Bureau of Intelligence (FBI) that the anti-graft agency will intensify its fight against cyber crimes in the country.

Magu on Thursday said that the collaboration between the FBI and EFCC has recorded much success. He added that part of the joint operation with the FBI, a recent exercise codenamed “Operation Wire Wire” has led to the arrest of over 32 suspected cybercriminals by the anti-graft agency.

Magu, who was represented at the event by the Zonal Head of EFCC, Akaninyene Ezima, said this during a presentation of certificates by the Assistant Legal Attaché, of the United States Consulate General, Lagos, Mark F.Grimm, to EFCC operatives.

He charged the operatives to continue working hard, adding that the ‘Operation Wire Wire’ sends a strong message to cybercriminals that there is no hiding place.

“We believe that this kind of collaboration will continue between both organisations.

“Operation Wire Wire” had sent a strong message to Nigerians and the rest of the world that there “is no hiding place for criminals. Some have been charged to court, while others are awaiting arraignment,” he said.

Earlier in his address, Grimm thanked the FBI as well as the operatives of EFCC for their cooperation during the operation.

He also assured that such collaborations would continue as part of efforts to check the activities of cybercriminals in Nigeria.
