The Oyo State Government has given a sum of N1 million as compensation to the family of a deceased officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Omikunle Sunday.

Omikunle who was attached to the state joint security task force, known as “Operation Burst”, died following an accident he was involved in on June 24, 2018, around Iseyin area of the state.

The Deputy Governor of the state, Mr Moses Adeyemo, who handed over the cash to the wife of the deceased, Mrs Olayinka Omikunle, at governor’s office, prayed that God grants the family the fortitude to bear the loss.

Noting that no one has the power to restore life to the dead, Adeyemo said the donation was only to serve as morale booster for serving officers that the state government will not abandon them in times of emergency or casualty.

Speaking further, Special Adviser to the Governor on security, Mr Segun Bolarinwa, said the gesture was covered in the insurance scheme of the Oyo State security trust fund for security officers who suffer casualties in the course of their duty.

In his remarks, the commandant of the Oyo NSCDC, Mr John Adewoye, thanked the government for the decision to compensate the family of the bereaved.

He also said that the gesture showed that the welfare of officers was paramount to the state government.
