Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule has sworn in six new judicial officers to improve the administration of justice.
Five of the new-elected officers got promoted to High court judges and one was the Acting President of the Customary Court of Appeal.
The six of them were sworn-in Monday by Governor Abdullahi Sule at the Aliyu Akwe Doma banquet hall in Lafia, Nasarawa state.
In his remarks after administering oaths of office on them, Governor Abdullahi Sule acknowledges that more is needed to improve the quality of justice delivery in the state.
He said, “Government has ensured the appointment of the right people as judges and provide essential working tools for the institution in addition to sundry welfare packages.
“No matter how much investment Government makes, structures, equipment, and other incentives on their own do not translate to excellence in service delivery.
“What is imperative is that the person must uphold the values and ethics of their respective offices and prestige of their calling”
He reiterates his administration’s willingness to upscale the capacity of judicial officers in the state to meet global standards.
“Government will continue to ensure capacity development of the judicial personnel through periodic training. This is with a view to updating them with modern trends in global legal practice”
While the state government meets its own expectations, Governor Sule charges the new judges and the president of the customary court of appeal to uphold values that would be beneficial to the people and the state at large.
“Your appointment should be to you an opportunity to serve the people with diligence, patriotism, transparency, accountability, equity, and integrity and I hope that you will follow them in that line”
This development is coming after few weeks of the state getting the first female chief judge, Justice Aisha Bashir Aliyu who was also sworn in by the governor to serve the state in an acting capacity pending approval from the National judicial council.
