The office of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the Ojodu area of Lagos State came under attack with some vehicles damaged by a crowd of people on Tuesday.

This followed an accident involving a truck that killed some students and injured others at Grammar School Bus-Stop along Ogunusi Road in Ojodu.

The compound also houses the offices of the Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) in the area.

While police authorities in Lagos stated that two students were killed, eyewitnesses said over 15 schoolchildren lost their lives to the incident.

Shortly after the incident, an angry crowd comprising youths and some boys in school uniforms attempted to invade the FRSC office in the area.

In one of the viral videos capturing the incident on Tuesday, the crowd resorted to hurling stones and other dangerous items after they were resisted by a man who guarded the gate.

During a follow-up visit to the office on Wednesday, Channels Television met a deserted compound with a few personnel on the ground.

“What actually happened is a misconception of everything that happened. There is a likelihood that passers-by who saw our people rescuing the victims passed that fake news that it was road safety (officials) that caused the crash,” he said.

“It is that misconception of this thing that is making some students as other miscreants to capitalise on it (the incident) to come and attack our office.”
