The Department of State Security Service (DSS) has released the Executive Director of the International Press Institute, Lanre Arogundade.

Arogundade’s release was confirmed by the institute in a tweet on its verified handle on Thursday evening.

“Mr. Arogundade @lanreipc has been released, and his Passport has been returned to him. Thank you all.”

Multiple reports suggested that he was arrested by the security operatives upon arrival at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport earlier in the day. Arogundade had travelled to The Gambia for a training programme on Conflict Reporting for Journalists, organised by the UNESCO (Gambia), and International Press Institute. At the moment, no reason was given for his arrest.
