Not less than 5,000 teachers cut across public and community secondary schools in Katsina State on Monday endorsed the candidature of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr Dikko Umaru Radda.

In a rally spearheaded by the State Commissioner of Education, Professor Badamasi Lawal Charanchi, at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in the state capital, teachers were seen smiling and jubilating because to them, a savior is coming to salvage the education sector of the state.

According to the Education Commissioner, the attendees comprise 2,800 head teachers, 600 secondary school principals, 160 community secondary school teachers, and over 500 administrators drawn from the state ministry of education as well as officials from the SUBEB in the 17 Zonal Quality Assurance Offices.

He explained that the APC governorship candidate is not only a trained and well-groomed classroom teacher but also a versatile administrator who can strive harder in the area of education to move the sector forward.

“We have seen what Governor Masari did to the education sector in the last seven years, where he made it his priority.

“He spent so much in the area of education, particularly in the provision of infrastructure, students welfare, capacity building, and recruitment of teachers.

“We thought as teachers we have a fate to decide who among the contestants will continue from where the governor stops.

“We found out that we have the right candidate in APC who is also an educationist and we felt we are duty bound to ensure continuity and success in the education and to ensure that teachers are motivated and groomed and to ensure structures are put in place and more strategies to revitalize the education.

“We are not involved in any partisan politics because citizens have the right to associate with any person they want.

“The constitution gave us the right to associate with any person, group, or association.

“I see nothing bad in supporting a candidate because as education Commissioner, I am duty-bound,” Charanchi added.

Two of the teachers while reacting to some speculations during the rally say they were not forced to join but did so out of their unanimous decision to support the candidate whom they believe will do exactly the same or even better than Governor Masari.

“We decided to endorse our APC governorship candidate out of our decisions because we believed in his capacity as a trained teacher,” the Director of School, Katsina Ministry of Education Malam Ya’u Jibril said.

Another teacher,  Malam Idris Usman corroborated this.

“In fact, it’s not true, nobody forced us to do this rally, it’s based on our assessment as teachers vis-a-vis the good work that the present administration is doing in the Education sector.

“And we believe that Dr Dikko Umaru Radda will do exactly the same or even better than governor Masari,” he noted.
