‘Overwhelming Challenge’: Man Attempts Suicide On Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos

The man has been kept in protective custody until the arrival of his family members.

Police operatives have rescued a man who attempted suicide by jumping into the lagoon on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos. 

The man identified as Yemi was rescued around noon on Friday by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).

In a post on its X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Lagos Police Command said the man is from the Illasa area of the state.

“At about 1200hrs today, Rapid Response Squad (RRS) bike riders on routine patrol on the Third Mainland Bridge prevented a man from jumping into the lagoon, ” the late Friday post from the police read.

“The man, one Yemi, aged 59 of Ilasa, Lagos stated that he was overwhelmed by challenges.”

The RRS Commander Shola Jejeloye was quoted to have counselled the suspect and has directed that he be kept in protective custody pending the arrival of his family members.
