Katsina Electoral Commission Trains Officers Ahead Of LG Elections

The Commission promised to work towards conducting a more acceptable local government election.


 

The Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) has concluded a training workshop for electoral officers of the commission on logistics management ahead of the local government elections in the state.

The two-day orientation workshop programme which ended on Wednesday is centred on retraining and reorienting officers and staff of the commission on new techniques and methodologies and is also aimed at ensuring credible and acceptable Local government elections slated for February 15th, 2025.

The Chairman of the Commission, Lawal Faskari, while declaring the workshop open at the Katsina Motel Conference Hall explained that this is the third workshop organized by the Commission for its members of staff to acquaint them with all relevant laws and other administrative techniques towards achieving the desired goals.

He therefore urged participants of the workshop to adhere to all rules and regulations governing the conduct of elections as enshrined by relevant laws.

Faskari restated the commitment of the Commission towards conducting a more acceptable local government election in the state.

“The Commission further appreciates the support and cooperation from the stakeholders as well as the general public,” Faskari stated.

In his remarks, the lead facilitator of the workshop, Lawal Zubairu, told participants that in the course of the training, the participants will be acquainted with new modern techniques, methods, and modalities including attitudinal change in line with international best practices.

“This training is multifaceted,” he added.

On December 9th, 2024, the state electoral commission restated its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible, and acceptable local government elections.

At the opening of a two-day orientation and training workshop organised for the 21 newly recruited electoral officers in the state capital, Faskari said the workshop for the newly recruited electoral officers is aimed at equipping trainees with all that is expected from them before, during, and after the elections as contained in the approved time-table for the election.

Faskari pointed out that the Commission had been following and will continue to follow all stipulated procedures, rules, and regulations governing the conduct of the local government council elections as enshrined by the Electoral Acts 2022 as amended, the state electoral laws, and other enabling laws.
