Niger Gov: Women Endorse ADC Aspirant Kpautagi

The endorsement was announced during a gathering organised by the Coalition for Women Campaign.

Women groups drawn from the 25 local government areas of Niger State have endorsed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) aspirant, Mohammed Kpautagi, for the 2027 governorship election.

The endorsement was announced during a gathering organised by the Coalition for Women Campaign, led by Aisha Suleja Mai Youth, who said the visit was aimed at appreciating Doctor Kpautagi, and encouraging him to heed the call to contest the next gubernatorial election.

According to her, Niger State urgently needs a purposeful and people-oriented leader with the capacity to address poverty, insecurity, and poor governance, while prioritising women’s empowerment and inclusive leadership.

She assured that women across the state are ready to mobilise massively ahead of the 2027 polls to support a credible alternative capable of rescuing the state from what she described as misrule and maladministration.

Aisha described Kpautagi as a humble, compassionate, and result-driven individual with a genuine passion for the development of Niger State, stressing that his leadership would help change the state’s narrative for the better.

In separate remarks, the three zonal coordinators of the movement—Hauwa Musa, Mary Shashere, and Sayyada Kontagora—expressed disappointment with the performance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in the state.

They lamented that despite voting for the APC during the last general elections, many communities have not felt the expected positive impact of governance, hence their resolve to support the ADC as a viable alternative in 2027.

Also speaking, the state coordinator of the movement and former member of the House of Representatives for Lapai/Agaie Federal Constituency, Abdulkadir Mahmud, commended the women for their foresight, noting that women constitute a significant voting bloc capable of determining electoral outcomes.

He thanked them for the familiarization visit and urged them to sustain their unity and commitment ahead of the forthcoming elections.

In his response,  Kpautagi noted that it was not yet time for political campaigns, adding that he had previously contested in the 2023 election.

He appreciated the women for finding him worthy of the endorsement and assured them that he would heed the clarion call at the appropriate time in the interest of Niger State and Nigeria.

Kpautagi also acknowledged the efforts of the current administration under Governor Umaru Bago, stating that if given the mandate in 2027, his administration would deliver improved governance and sustainable development across all sectors.

He revealed that he has a well-articulated manifesto with strong emphasis on grassroots development at the local government level, aimed at reducing rural-urban migration and promoting inclusive growth in the state.
